Yis, ‘spirits’ would be a closer way of defining them but yōkai is still the most appropriate term (as spirits is not a direct translation and can lead to confusing yōkai with Western/other classifications of spirits) as they are their own classification of supernatural beings. And because they range diversity it would be inaccurate to call yōkai (in general) demons. Some do display characteristics similar to ‘demons’ but the view of yōkai isn’t quite the same as westerners’ beliefs/views on demons
The characteristics yōkai can display is also very diverse and traditionally this can range from malicious to malovelent but interestingly (and this is from my own interpretation) they are not necessarily portrayed as ‘evil’. They’re an important part of Japanese folklore and I’m still learning about them myself bc there’s so much but that’s my take. If I have said anything inaccurate please correct me.

Hmm, not explicitly? As mentioned, yōkai vary in characteristics so whilst some may display mischievous behaviour so I’d avoid referring to (or generalising) yōkai as tricksters. Some can be described as being similar to or characterising tricksters but not all share the same traits. I think more mischievous yōkai such as some Yako Kitsunes are the more popularised ones leading this generalisation but many others don’t display characteristics similar to tricksters. For example, in the 12th-13th century the depictions of the Tengu (which I am familiar with) described them as ghosts of angry, vain, or heretical priests who had fallen on the Tengudō but they are described differently in other depictions.
Yōkai depicted differently by various folklorists or people across different eras and there’s so many types of yōkai which why I’d consider them as a classification of their own just as you would other supernatural creatures such as vampires. Some yokai are even described as being kami and yokais such as the Tengu I mentioned or Yamata-no-Orochi in some depictions.

I’m okay with having a half siblngs because if your char’s other parent was a human, your char would be around the Earth more, so Lav would either know of your exsistence but never see you, or not be aware of your exsitence and never see you
Also, I think it’s Morana but has multiple spellings in different slavic countries so that could be the reason you didn’t find Morana/Morena in the FCs

i wanted to say this but ^^ demons is a very christian/abhramic thing, afaik most pagan religions didn’t have a concept of modern day ‘demons’. the closest we have is daimon/daemon which was meant for lesser but still powerful deities and spirits with no evil connotations. The term daemon, or daimon then became associated with negative things because the rise of abrahamic religions

I wanted to say something but I saw Cali wrapped it up pretty well, Te Fiti doesn’t exist and I recall reading somewhere that it was actually kind of disrespectful to the Polynesian community in a way?? I’m not sure on the last one, but I agree it could affect other Polynesian characters.

You can wait for her to respond, I don’t think tagging her a bunch is going to help as she is busy and has a busy life outside of the forums ): until then you may have to put that character idea on the side and find another parent

also make sure you check with Ethie before you choose a parent and make a character 
we have 150+ characters with nearly as many parents taken and only she can give the final ok

Okay, yes I was thinking that because Morana also has stuff with Rebirth, my character could have something to do with not having a father, but I still havent worked out a lot of kinks. But she’ll be on earth way more, maybe they will kind of know each other?
