daughter of : the duke from cinderella

female | she/her | sixteen | androsexual, androromantic [ questioning ] | cleaning & organization

|| personality ||

[ Novalei likes to be in control-but only of herself. Besides that, she is submissive and subservient, a servant and helping hand to everyone around her. Novalei has never broken a rule-she can’t recall ever breaking an object. She is cautious and careful with everything she does-especially if it involves someone else and their belongings. She is disciplined and great at managing herself-but she feels most comfortable being managed by other people. Ever since she was born, despite her father’s high status, she was trained to be a companion and servant of Cinderella’s daughter, Callie. So, from a young age, she developed a meek and passive personality, learning how to take orders-and find joy in taking them. And she did. Novalei finds great joy in serving-especially serving famous royalty like Callie Charming. She’s not prideful in much, but she takes pride in the fact that her father, the Duke, helped find Cinderella and put the slipper on her foot, and she gets to help royalty to become their best selves. She’s a very organized and responsible girl and has never been one to be messy. In fact, the one thing that bothers her more than anything are messy people and areas. She will always try to solve this problem by training said person not to be such a slob, and might even secretly dislike them, though she’d rather help them be better. ]

[ Novalei is extremely humble, and it seems that she sees everyone is her superior, and she must do as they say and serve them like her father always told her to. She usually brushes off compliments or even refuses them, and never takes time to build herself up or pat herself on the back for the hard work she’s done. She never acknowledges any insecurity or unhappiness in her heart because she doesn’t even know it exists. Though she doesn’t build herself up, Novalei is definitely the type to tear herself down-she’s an extreme perfectionist which means everything she does has to be done just right. No wrinkles in the bed sheets, perfectly round pancakes, not a speck of dust left on the door handles. Mistakes-or the idea of making mistakes really stresses her out and can put her in a numb and sorry mood. One of her worst fears is making a mistake (no matter how big or how small) and getting scolded or disciplined for it-which is why she’s so hard and unkind on herself-she thinks that doing so will prevent her from mistakes-and their consequences. She is very accepting of other’s mistakes however, happy to clean up after anyone and cover for them. She’s overly forgiving and full of second chances (and second second chances). She is loyal to her family and the Charming family, and is trustworthy and devoted to all who form a relationship with her. Novalei is a minimalist who is always getting rid of and donating belongings she feels she no longer needs. She is intelligent and does well in her classes. ]

[ Novalei is a kind person who wants to make others happy and improve their lives (mostly by cleaning). She’s never had many friends except for Callie, but often wishes she had a lot. Though she enjoys social events and going out, she always crams her schedule with so much cleaning and organizing that she never has enough time to relax or do something for herself. She’d be a hermit if she didn’t have Callie to drag her out to the mall or to some party. Even regarding parties, Novalei has made a habit of showing up an hour early and staying an hour late just to set up and clean up with the host. Still, whenever she goes out, she always has a nice time and her company is always enjoyed. When she takes a trip to the shops, she’s always picking up litter from the streets, folding clothes that weren’t put back right, and cleaning up other people’s messes. This can make her a bit of a drag to hang out with, although she is a very well-mannered and good conversationalist. Novalei is never one to claim the spotlight for herself, she is humble and doesn’t feel it suits her, she’d rather be the one shining the spotlight. Novalei doesn’t have much of a sense of style-she usually wears plain, white clothes with little accessorizing. However, Callie often dresses her up or gives her old clothes, which she accepts. She never wears any makeup, she doesn’t know how to apply it, but she is very meticulous about skin care. Novalei is a bit of a daydreamer-she loves cleaning and serving, but her mind often does two things at once-she daydreams or sings while she works. ]

|| biography ||

[ Novalei was born a few months after Callie Charming to the King’s right hand man-the Duke and his wife. Unfortunately, her mother passed in childbirth and the Duke was left to raise Novalei himself. Novalei was raised to be proud of her heritage. Her father was the one who traveled the entire kingdom, searching for the girl who Prince Charming had fallen desperately in love with. He was the one who found Cinderella and slipped the glass shoe onto her tiny foot, and the one who brought her back to the castle. He was the one who kept good relations between the kingdoms, the one who calmed the king’s temper, like an uncle to Cinderella and her prince. Novalei was a daddy’s girl and her father adored her. She was a perfect child, quiet, obedient, and tidy. She never asked for much either, all she wanted was to be like her father someday. He nicknamed her “duchess”, as he was the duke, and he wished to treat her and spoil her as if she were a real duchess. She liked the nickname, and allows her close friends to call her that instead of Novalei if they wish. ]

[ As she was almost the same age as Callie, it was expected of her to be a companion to the princess, which she was excited about. The two did click and instantly became friends. Though, her father often warned her to do whatever Callie wanted because she was the princess and status-wise, they were not equals. He told her to be sure to respect Callie and her title, and Novalei always did. When they were younger, Callie was quite the tomboy, so Novalei conformed, playing tag, hide and seek, horseback riding… Novalei didn’t love these activities so much, as they often got both her and Callie dirty and muddy. But she smiled anyways and did the laundry for the both of them. Since she was the age to start school, Novalei was taught the core subjects, but she was also taught to clean, cook, everything she would need to serve the Charming family as best as she could. Her father was her inspiration, like him, she wanted to find joy in the little things, joy in serving and improving people’s lives. ]

[ All the extra training made Novalei a very busy girl, but she always made sure to find time for her father and Callie. As she learned, she found she was expected to do more and more for Callie (besides being her loyal companion). She was soon expected to make her bed, do her laundry, organize her toys, clean her bathroom. Callie was never bossy towards Novalei and still treated her like a good friend. And Novalei never resented Callie and saw her as a good friend, too. This was just the way the world worked-some were born to serve and some were born to be served. Novalei learned to be happy in her role and was never bitter about being “inferior” to some, especially when those “some” were royalty. She learned how to iron without leaving a single crease in the fabric. She perfected the way she wiped glass, chose the best-smelling detergents for the laundry she did. Of course, she was a child, she was far from being the only servant, and did not do much work compared to the others. But she felt important. Still, she never boasted about her role, despite the pride she had in it. ]

[ Novalei would do her chores while Callie went to charm school, and when she returned, they would often spend time together, though it wasn’t every day. Both were busy- Novalei had her classes and work to do, and Callie had plenty of friends she’d met at school. They didn’t grow apart, though, they were content with the time they did spend together. Growing up so close together, they were like family to each other, and absence only made the heart grow fonder. The only time Novalei grew concerned was when the two were both preteens, and Callie started to lose friends. Fewer and fewer meals were ordered, there was less and less to clean up. And finally, no one came over anymore. Callie didn’t seem like she wanted to see anyone, not even Novalei. She shut herself in her room, and wouldn’t accept Novalei’s meals, even when left outside her door. After a few days, it seemed visitors were allowed. The first thing Callie said to Novalei was a question, ‘Duchess, am I ugly?’ She almost dropped her tray, she was so shocked by the question. Callie was…Callie! Her closest friend, the person she lived to serve! Callie said nothing no matter what Novalei told to her-it seemed she had already made up her mind about something. ]

[ Callie changed. And it wasn’t just her clothes, although those definitely changed. It seemed her hamper was filled with new, trendy items and the shoe closet was stocked with hundreds of pairs of high heels. Callie had embarked on a shopping spree with an unlimited budget, leaving Novalei with plenty of new things to handwash, fold, and organize. Another thing to organize was makeup products, which her friend had suddenly become obsessed with-she wouldn’t even let Novalei see her without a full face of makeup anymore. She’d become obsessed with her looks-something plain and simple Novalei had never understood. Makeup had never touched her face, she didn’t know a single designer brand, and her shirts had never risen past her hips. But the rules her father had set for her still applied, even though the girls were older. She was not to question Callie, and she was to follow along with whatever she did. And Novalei did, still slightly worried for her friend, but with a grin on her face and as much interest as possible. Another new interest was boys- Novalei was definitely not allowed to think about having a boyfriend, but that didn’t keep Callie from talking about the opposite gender constantly. Novalei just listened, calm smile on her face as she hung Callie’s dresses in rainbow order or used a featherduster to whisk dust from Callie’s vanity. ]

[ Novalei never had the chance to develop too much interest in anything besides being a servant, but she’s always had a love for theatre. She knows she’d suit clean-up crew and set design the best, but she’s always thought a role on the stage would be even more fun-a small part, of course. Sometimes, she even talks to herself or acts out small scenes while she is cleaning. And, as always, Callie’s interests were here interests. When her and Callie hung out, she was either dragged to a party she didn’t quite belong at or into the town to buy new clothes, try trendy foods, or take photos for Callie’s growing Instagrimm. Callie was always sure to make sure Novalei was getting her fair share of attention-purchasing clothing items she swore would look amazing and hot on her, even though they didn’t fit Novalei’s boring and plain style at all. She also took pictures of Novalei, insisting she set up an account. Her father always told her not to have social media-it was a distraction, but Novalei secretly did want an account… It was just following orders. Maybe she could find some cool cleaning and organization accounts. That’s what she told herself, though she made sure to private her account, only letting a few people follow her. Callie seemed to always want to mold her friend to be like her-as if being like Callie was the path to happiness and beauty. And while Novalei always did her best to follow along, she knew she was different from the Charming princess in so many ways. ]

[ Life seemed a lot less happy when Callie was expelled from charm school, and soon, sent to Once Upon a High instead. Novalei was offended and hurt to see she received no golden envelope. Wasn’t her father important? Wasn’t he a hero? Cinderella couldn’t happen without him? The next year felt incredibly dull without the Charming siblings at her side, though Callie did come back to visit, bringing stories of Once Upon a High and all the cute boys that went there. Her smile had to be slightly forced as she stacked folded towels in her arms. She’d never been envious of the people above her before, and she would not let that change. To keep herself from any loneliness or hurt, she worked even harder, working late into the nights, never allowing herself time for that negativity-being emotional felt like a waste when she could be cleaning and helping the family that had done so much for her instead. The summer was much happier for Novalei, who finally got her best friend back. She also got to meet Cara, Callie’s new friend, who Novalei got along with well. But as summer neared its end, Novalei knew Callie would go back to school, and things would return to their new “normal” once more. ]

[ Until a third sparkling envelope appeared in the mail, addressed to Novalei Skarsgård, the daughter of the duke from Cinderella. Her eyes widened and her smile stretched across her entire face as she hugged the letter to her chest. It was easy for her to convince her father to let her go-this meant she could continue serving Callie, learn from one of the most prestigious schools, and meet other royals. Maybe she’d even meet people like her! Though, he gave her a warning, she was not to get distracted from her studies and her job. She was expected to maintain excellent grades and fulfill her duties as if she were still living in the castle. And to sweeten the deal-if she was able to do this, after a few months he would allow her to own a kitten. She’d always wanted to own a cat-she knew she was responsible enough to clean up after one, and she had enough love in her heart to care for it, too. But her father had always insisted it was a distraction. Duchess agreed to his terms, excitedly. She gave him a hug and kiss on the cheek before she left-and yes, a single tear did slide down her cheek, though she quickly composed herself. It was her first time riding in the Charming’s carriage, after all, and that was something to look forwards to. Besides, of course, the big white building that would soon come into view-full of bright new opportunities-especially ones to serve. ]

Bren can’t stand when things aren’t fair, whether they have to do with her or not. They’ll surely try and help you come up with solutions, keeping them in a fairly ideal realistic box. But that doesn’t mean there creativity won’t hide behind her bold and stylish looks. Bren

Bren grew up away from her aunt’s, cousins, and Grandpa, but that didn’t mean get togethers were not loud and exciting. Twice a year there would be grand parties where they could show off her new skills and greet family. Bren has never been the type to get in fancy dresses and show off her “lady manners”, but she definitely learned to be courteous of others and respect everyone, whether they were older or younger. Bren loves being a team player, but had found herself retracting from sports and social interactings around the time she was thirteen. She’d always known she wasn’t fully a girl, and her family -as far as she knew- always respected and accepted her, especially her mother and father. Kids and such would always teased her asking how she could be a “princess” and still not be a girl fully. It had got into a point where she could no longer attend social gatherings with non-royals, which made her feel bad about her identity that she’d proudly present before. Among the years they went in and out of homeschool, were they slowly gained confidence, till she came to a point where she faced her fear eventually and taught people what it meant to be Demi by the age of fifteen. A lot of time they embraces it dearly now, though sometimes she stumbles back and waivers.
Bren has hope that her new school will help kindle her back, and help her make long term friends that will last her a lifetime.
