General Chat for All Writers

I wanna make Deadly Nightshade 16-20 episodes, but idk what to fit plot-wise within that range. More deaths? There’s a major plot twist at the end, and a few new characters, but what else?

Maybe you could like switch focus to another character?

Interesting. It already shifts through character povs. But I could focus on a main one for a few episodes

How do you guys deal when you start writing something and all the scenes feel like they’re missing a lot of stuff?

I’m writing this story about this girl (Edith) who is cursed, runs from home and ends up getting rescued by this girl (Lucy) and taken to her manor. This is the second story I’m writing where I’m attempting to do romance lol, so it’ll eventually lead to romance between Edith and Lucy’s brother. However, at the moment we don’t know anything about the MC and how/why she fled, we just know she fled from somewhere and isn’t telling Lucy that as they start to become friends.

The thing is tho, her brother isn’t here yet and it’s literally just her and Lucy in this big freakin house! (Aside from like servants and stuff). I can think of certain parts of dialogue, but I have so much trouble describing the house, how they become friends (is it weird to rescue a random stranger and become friends with them because you’re lonely and have no friends? Because that’s basically what Lucy is doing), and describing the house and circumstances in a suspenseful way. Because the LI is actually cursed too, we just don’t find that out till way later.

I guess in that time I wanted there to be a plot about her actually becoming friends with Lucy, but because they’re both kind and somewhat quiet people I have trouble building that relationship–they’re just naturally inclined towards liking each other.

I think I’m also having trouble because I used a lot of description for the first page and am having trouble describing anything in depth now.

I need to keep reminding myself that i should write a first draft even if its bad because first drafts arent perfect

A good piece of advice I found is to write for you and your enjoyment. It said to write what you’d want to read, but tbh sometimes the things I write in a first draft aren’t things I’d super love reading . So instead I changed it to enjoyment. If you enjoy writing, even if your work isn’t perfect, keep going. If you’re not enjoying it take a break if you can. Or just try to figure out what you’re not liking etc.

Nice one. I’m writing something for Wattpad. The Wattys.

I didn’t know you could write on episode.

Yeah, you can! But it’s more like coding than actual writing. I plan to adapt Deadly Nightshade as a Wattpad story too.

Tag yourself, I’m the first one:
