Gravity Falls: A New Adventure! [Official Thread]

“I don’t like this guy”…I muttered to Jimena. “I don’t think I got your name…I’m Blake.” I said, holding my hand out. “Sorry if you don’t do hand shakes.”

It wasn’t much, but at least Aiden was laughing now. That had to be at least a good sign that no one else was going to get injured in the next few moments.

“I really am sorry about how your parents treated you, but that’s no way to parade around town with the same mindset. If you really wanted to get away with selling falsified goods, you should have tried the next town over, you know, where no one knows you’re a hack,” Oliver started toward Aiden. Though the assumption on Angelica was valid, Oliver just liked to think that she was helping others not for the recognition, but rather for the altruism. That was the difference.

Still, Oliver tossed Aiden and Brutus the specific sent spray to ward off the zombies, along with other supplies. “We’re heading toward the main cavern for the largest nesting hive for the undead. If you’re joining, just know that the same thread to death does apply to you. Of course, making out alive will make the experience much more of a bragging right. Bonus points if you discover something fascinating along the way.”

Jimena smiled. “Nice to meet you, Blake. I’m Jimena. And considering that I have a bit of the d*chebag’s blood on my hand still… I don’t think I’m doing handshakes right now.” She joked. Untying her bandana, she used it to wipe the blood away.

“I don’t like him, either.” Jimena agreed. “He’s far to… I don’t know, prissy for my tastes. I can’t say I don’t agree with him about Angel acting like she knows everything, though… Maybe that’s just because I don’t know her that well, but… I feel like she doesn’t take me seriosuly.”

I smiled at her little joke. “Yeah, I know how you feel. People always think I’m a boy…heh…siblings…I don’t have an, actually. Just stick with me. I also love the skull aesthetic.” I said.

Watching the whole ordeal Angel felt a sense of gratitude towards everyone especially her new found sister. But that quickly fizzled when Aiden continued talking about her grandfather. Walking over Angelica gripped him by his collar and lifted him to her level.

“Listen to me you sorry sack of abandonment issues, You of ALL people should know what it’s like to lose someone. And instead of trying to understand my family or understand why I do so much research you mock me…I guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree?” Angel stated with a scowl.

“So your right Aiden, My families full of con-artists but if you haven’t blocked out every childhood memory of trauma so is your family. But here’s the difference Aiden my family members are liars who love me, Your family members are liars who hate you. Get a grip.” Angelica stated dropping him back into the ground.

“I really am sorry about how your parents treated you, but that’s no way to parade around town with the same mindset. If you really wanted to get away with selling falsified goods, you should have tried the next town over, you know , where no one knows you’re a hack,” Oliver started toward Aiden.

Angelica smiled at his statement and nodded in agreement as Blake scowled at Aiden. Angelica then sighed.

“Y’know what bothers me Aiden. How when you first popped up in Gravity Falls I admired you. Not for your lies but for your hustle, We both come from broken backgrounds with being abandoned by family- We both had to work our way from the ground up. I genuinely thought you would end up being one of my best friends. But seeing you hate me just because you don’t agree makes you no better than your family…And my research doesn’t make me any better than mine.” Angelica sighed.

Truthfully no one understood because everyone was on the better side of things, Even her new found sister had it better than her. Minus the possession at most. Regardless Angelica turned on her heel and continued walking down the cave without another word.

Perhaps it was agreed that things could have gone better in the end. Angelica got her thoughts in about the whole ordeal, not shaking up Aiden too much before just stalking away. She did try though and wasn’t that far off about everything. Then again, if they were trying to bond over dysfunctional families, that was another whole matter to factor in.

But neither was the whole patronizing tone toward Aiden. Things weren’t violent anymore, but the words just felt like they hurt more than needed. Clearly Oliver portrayed the wrong message if Aiden just through of it as a crappy insult, but there were still chances to rectify things. On the other hand, Angelica wrapped the story into a guilt trip for how she could have gotten along with Aiden. Both options were seemingly equally dangerous and more likely to force another confrontation down the road.

That’s when it just grew more annoying that conversations could be this complicated.

Watching Angel, Raelyn, and Blake just pan away down another corridor of the cave, Oliver just spun back to snap at Jimena, Aiden, and Brutus. “You three, we’re a team now. Temporary, very temporary, but Blake is flying solo here and Aiden p!ssed off Angelica. Just give her a few minutes though, I’m sure she’ll walk it off.”

He cracked open the map, holding it up to the light, “What do you say then? Should we find the signal first or poke around for relics?”

Raelyn was silent the entire time, from leaving the Mystery Shack to arriving at the catacombs. She had in earbud in one ear, listening to rock music while the others conversed.

“So this is the entrance to the catacombs,” she mumbled. “Not as creepy-looking as I expected, but still off-setting, none-the-less.”

Rae heard an unfamiliar voice nearby, though she ignored it, as it wasn’t directed at her. She continued to study the entrance and noticed that there was a faint smell of decay. So the undead had occupied this place, but it seems to have been a while, she though to herself. Though I wonder what else might be hiding in the shadows…

Her train of thought trained off as everyone started to head into the catacombs. She’d quickly applied the smell nullifier to herself before following everyone inside. Not long afterwards, the group split up and went down different corridors.

“Do you think it’s a good idea to separate?” she asked Blake and Angelica. “Sure, that Aiden sounds like a complete jerk face, but…”

Raelyn shook her head, cutting herself off before she possibly made things worse.

Approachable
I walked into the catacombs, preferring to go solo. I clutched my flashlight, the beam cutting through the inky blackness. It was deadly silent except for my steps and breathing. “Well, this place is interesting…I’m so happy I could stop the cart…” I shuddered, trying not to think of what could’ve happened if I hadn’t.

“You look stunning as always,” Arlo commented, “feel free to lead the way.” Arlo gestured. Marlene chuckled. “You look amazing as well.” Marlene teasingly curtsied. As they continued down the sleek and advanced tunnels.

“Transportation should already be packed with everything I need for research,” Arlo added. “Don’t worry everything’s packed. Including that beautiful ray with the fuel of pheromones. All it takes is one spray and any being on the planet will be putty in our hands.” Marlene crossed her arms with a smug grin.

Pressing a button a large panel rolled up revealing a pristine spaceship. It was highly functioned with various of weapons. The large spray-device sat on the top. Alongside various panels emergency medical kits, Space equipment, and chemical equipment.

Commanding the A.I. To dock the car on the ship for emergencies. The long staircase emerged as they went up the stairs. The lights powered on immediately. Various of high-tech suits were in chambers.

Entering the control room the ship began the countdown.

“Alright. You already know the plan butttt.” Marlene plopped down on a chair swirling it to the nearby desk and summoning the layout of the moon. “Here’s the layout feel free to mark and breakdown what you’d like. Our arrival shouldn’t be too long.” Marlene peering at the time interface.

Suddenly her plantlings returned and merged into her fingertips. Marlene paused as they fed her information. Her lips curled into a smile. “You were right Arly. Something is off in Gravity Falls, And it’s fresh.” Marlene stood up opening another interface as it scanned Gravity Falls. A pin-point dot beeped like mad at a specific location.

Marlene raised an eyebrow. “The catacombs…Why in the world would it be there.” Marlene pondered. “Enhance,” Marlene added as the screen plastered showcasing a bunch of teens venturing the catacombs.

Marlene rolled her eyes. “A bunch of curious teens roaming where they shouldn’t be. Typical.” Marlene scoffed. Of course, the project where they hid files and documents was deep beneath the catacombs’ surface with various high-tech and identification scans. The kids couldn’t get in if they tried.

Regardless the dot remained on a girl with a scarf and “edgy” apparel. “Well. The device is giving an unidentified species read through that girl.” Marlene said to Arlo. “But as far as I can see she’s normal…Unless.” Marlene trailed off summoning another panel showcasing her vitals, identification, organs, and more.

“Vitals are normal, Organs are fine. There’s no sign of her being any sort of being other than human.” Marlene stated in boredom when suddenly an alert popped up reading odd rhythmic power surges from her chest area. It fluctuated between normal rhythm and a racing pattern with a gold tint.

“Someone. Or something is inside that kid.” Marlene smirked. Keeping pin-point and commanding the A.I. To save all information it could find on the girl and her friends.

“After this trip, It looks like we have ourselves a fresh case.” Marlene chuckled. “Kids. Always getting into things they shouldn’t.” Marlene shrugged as the countdown finally hit 0. The spaceship began to take off, Thankfully it was on auto-pilot, Regardless the suits were ready to be put on when needed.

“Anything else you need?” Marlene asked turning her chair back in Arlo’s direction.

It was interesting to think that long ago, this foreign ship once used to belong to otherworldly creatures. Now, with all the renovations that had happened, Arlo and Marlene had pretty much-modified everything to their needs. Scraping, yes, and perhaps damaging to the original structure, but it was a necessary sacrifice for the sake of being accessible. The only reason they kept coming back at this point was to continue deciphering what the strange figure drawings on the wall meant and to dismantle the security system. The latter option growing lately into much of an annoyance.

Of course, now heading toward the ship again, some other issue had to pop up. Arlo hadn’t expected the plant creatures to return that quickly, or even pinpoint an exact person for that matter. He just stood against one of the far control panels, wearily watching Marlene absorb the plant (which would never not be slightly disturbing) before a red dot appeared on the screen.

Another hidden component to Gravity Falls was the sheer amount of plastered camera and sensors all over the place. Naturally well hidden and configured, all the residents were practically oblivious. Of course, there were a few incidents with the Mondragon’s in the past regarding ‘accidentally’ dismantling the sensors. Those were hard enough to cover up. In the end, the cameras provided a practical scope of the town’s activity at all times. The catacombs were no different.

“You do know that this really doesn’t bode well with my previous sensor?” Arlo pointed out, “The indicator for a foreign presence in town was alarming enough, but this new evidence really doesn’t make anything better. On the bright side, it does mean that I didn’t run any incorrect calculations and that the machine was correct from the start.”

Right, because one had to take victories while they lasted. Unfortunately, that did confirm the whereabouts of an interdimensional presence along with the existence of alternate dimensions.

Arlo just fell back onto the sliding chair, sighing while lazily using a remote to switch the screen view to a better close-up of the kids.

“We can make the visit to the space ship a short one then,” he proposed, “the case at hand with new inside does seem to file a higher priority now that we know what we are dealing with. Perhaps log a few signals, see what we can translate.”

Transporation was already well on its way regardless, as long as hell didn’t immediately break loose back in town, things were bound to be fine.

“Marlene, and if this sounds out of place then you don’t have to respond…but, could I inquire as to how your plant-based abilities react with the foreign tech? There seems to be this affinity as of lately and I was wondering if the originals of those abilities had to do with something weird. Gravity Falls weird. You’ve lived here your whole life, know this place far better, and now there is a world-ending threat looming. Do you think that your abilities could connect or benefit in any way?”

With a sigh, Raelyn parted ways from Angelica, heading deeper into the catacombs. The silence engulfed her, and the flashlight she held was the only thing keeping the shadows at bay.

“Probably not the best idea to wander this place alone,” she whispered to herself, careful not to let the place echo. “Blake went off on their own, and who knows where the others are…”

Her voice trailed off as she reached the end of the side tunnel. A door stood in front of her, one with strange yet familiar images. The flashlight started to flicker, causing her to swear under her breath.

“Curse the efficiency of modern day batteries,” Rae mumbled irritably.

With the little light she had, she began to study the images on the door. Music was still playing through her earbuds, though Rae hardly noticed that.

I continued into the catacombs, the light from my flashlight dancing across the walls. I didn’t like the silence, so I began to sing. “Once a night, the bedroom light bleeds out from inside my window. Eyes wide, I keep out of sight, the city’s just not pretty like it used to be. It’s always a nightmare, it’s never a dream, the promise we made to kill the days between. They live in the heartbeat and sleep til the light is gone…it’s been so long!”

When Blake started singing, Jimena was caught completely off guard, mostly because she didn’t sound half bad. Listening to her made the damp, drippy silence of the catacombs much more bearable. Jimena caught herself smiling shyly, humming along to the unfimiliar tune as best as she could.

"They live in the heartbeat and sleep til the light is gone…it’s been so long!” Blake’s gentle voice echoed off of the stone walls, but before Jimena could really enjoy it, a shrill, high voice chimed loudly in. “...SINCE LAST IVE SEEN MY SON LOST TO THIS MONSTER, TO THE MAN BEHIND THE SLAUGHTER!” Bill danced through the air, twirling his cane and not even trying to stay on key. Jimena covered her ears and, once the others had passed by, threw a rock at the demon to silence him. It phased right through him, of course, but he clutched his chest and plummeted to the ground to play dead. Gasping out his “last breaths”, he raised a shaky hand dramatically to the sky. “Ev...ry...ones... a... crit...ic...” He choked before flopping over with a dramatic death croak. Jimena rolled her eyes at him. “A terrible singer and a terrible actor, huh? Thank god you’re a semi-decent demon.” Bill sat bolt upright and looked at her, betrayed. “No fair, Crossbones. That one actually stung.” He recovered quickly though as Jimena went back to join the group, floating along behind her and quietly humming his song’s instrumentals under his breath. “Dododo do dododo do dododo do dodo do doodledoolde...

Blake, thankfully, was still singing. Jimena smiled nostalgically. The tune reminded her of a lullabye her father used to sing to her, one she was humming under her breath. Eventually, Blake’s voice gave her the courage to sing, too, with her own similar melody. “Duérmete mi niño, duérmete mi amor, duérmete pedazo de mi corazón. Este niño mío que nació de noche, quiere que lo lleve a pasear en coche.” She didn’t think that her voice was anything special, espescially compared to Blake’s, but it felt nice just to let the words tumble out.

Watching Jimena and Blake try to sync up the singing, even if it only later a few seconds, was actually quite adorable. Blake starting some tone, Jimena catching it, awkwardly pausing halfway then hurling a rock at the cave wall. Relatable. Oliver just took that as good enough of a cue that they were going to be their own group. It just left Angel, Aiden, Brutus, and Rae.

Which was fine because the more the merrier.

Oliver just dropped his arm sling over Aiden’s shoulder to hop toward Rae, still beckoning toward the others to follow. Sure, there was the hive nest they were going for, but Rae had to be quite the scavenger herself.

“These are amazing!” he retorted upon seeing the craved images, “Look at that, one day and you’re already paving a career of an adventure.” Oliver just winked at Rae while tossing her the spare flashlight.

“Now, someone help me with this door. It’s massive and heavy as hell, but I think we can bust it open if we all try,” he announced. Of course, that was mostly a key for ‘Aiden, get your hulking brother over here’ because God knew that if anyone could help with the door, it was that person.

I heard Jimena start trying to harmonize with me, then start singing what sounded like a lullaby. “That’s pretty. Is it Spanish?” I asked.

Aiden and Brutus had been stuck with a group of Mondragon’s cronies. The almighty one herself wasn’t here, thankfully, but that didn’t really matter as much when the girl who’d kicked him in the balls and Angelica’s crazy sister had taken her place. Aiden tried to keep a distance from all of them, espescially the girl in the bandana, who was whispering madly to herself and hurling rocks at walls. Just as crazy as I thought. Aiden smirked. I can’t blame her, though. If I had to live with the great and powerful Angelica Mondragon, the guru, the goddess herself, I’d probably go insane, too.

The basket case and the girl in the flannel had started an a cappella group together, singing together as the group made it’s way through the catacombs. Lovely. Aiden rolled his eyes. “You two should harmonize. Do a round! Try counterpoint!” He called out sarcastically to them, but to be honest, they were making this uncomfortable situation a little more bearable. The tight, damp walls of the caves seemed to back away from their voices, and the stench in the air cleared, if only just a little bit.

When the only other boy in the group (Otto or Oswald or Ricky or something like that) slung his arm over Aiden’s shoulder, Aiden froze. He wasn’t used to physical contact with other human beings. He avoided touching people whenever possible… Or maybe people just avoided him. His brain sort of shut off, and he felt the urge to retreat into his own body, tucking his neck into his chest like a turtle in a shell. Brutus calling out “Haha, GAY!” didn’t make anything better. Aiden ducked out of the boy’s grasp and dusted himself off, but, despite the overwhelming urge to scream or insult him, he couldn’t think of anything to say. The anger faded away almost instantly, leaving a sort of… emptiness behind. He just sort of stood there, looking down at his feet to avoid eye contact with any of the others. As the group continued on, Brutus shoved him foward, urging him to continue.

Everytually, they came to a heavy, blocked door. The boy was already trying to force it open, and he asked for help. “Brutus,” Aiden said, “Go on and help him. If you’re a good boy maybe I’ll give you a treat.” He joked dryly. His brother growled, which only made the dog metaphor fit the stupid brute better, but reluctantly went to work on the door. And somehow, despite himself, Aiden was following along, helping out too. Even though all three of them were working at it, the door didn’t budge. “What now?” He asked, turning to Oliver.

Jimena shrugged and blushed a little bit. “You don’t have to patronize me.” She assured Blake. “But yeah. it is. My dad used to sing it for me when I was little, whenever I was to anxious to sleep. I don’t quite remember what it means… It’s for little little kids, but I still hum it to myself sometimes.”
