Wanted to make a post addressing the hairstyles textures and curl patterns on which and how it’s supposed to be used. And I’m NOT going to use that stupid 4a, 3b, whatever chart to indicate it. Just throw that whole chart away.
Disclaimer: I will also be talking about Kinky hair, not kinky curly. Kinky curly is somewhat in similarity to Coily but it’s more visible. However, I see it as the same category of hair texture so I will be only referring to it as Coily and Kinky as a seperate texture, meaning Afro-textured.
Differences and Distinctions between hair textures
What's the difference between Coily and Curly?
“One who has coily hair is when their curls are very tight ringlets that curl upon themselves. Coily hair appears to be a lot more compact than simply curly hair. The key distinction is that coily hair will curl upon itself whereas curly hair retains its cylinder shape without the additional curl up.” - From website: Kinky Curly Hair Vs. Coily Hair in 2018: What Gives? — Posh Lifestyle & Beauty Blog
What's the difference between Coily and Kinky?
Coily hair is more compacted and has less defined curls than kinky hair. Coily hair curl pattern has a z-shaped or o-shaped curls that form to resemble coils. Kinky is more defined in curl pattern, highly textured, and has very tight curls compared to coily hair. Kinky hair has a spongy, cottony touch and when stretched, retracts quickly back into shape.
