Does anyone else think this is a stupid pledge to make?
I mean it’s a painting. Make a pledge about something more meaningfull would be more beneficial.
I mean, Andrew Jackson was a racist… Killed thousands of Native Americans…
But strangely, I agree.
Yeah, I get that part but I’m like really? There are plenty of other controversial painting of other leaders in the white house as well. I just find it strange to pledge this.
How about they take down every racist painting because they don’t deserve to be changed up–wait we’re talking about the White House. Of course they’re up.
Exactly but the building is a historical place same goes with every musuem though.
They should definitely take down the painting of George Washington. He owned slaves. While they’re at it, fix our economy too
True but then that would have to go for every painting throughout history if that was the only reason. Yeah, I agree the economy does suck right now. We getting into even more debt this way.
right.
not to mention “poorer” communities are being impacted negatively
Yep, I know. It’s getting worse everyday now. None of the plans will work either at this point.
They should keep those paintings up as a reminder of some of the most terrible people associated with American history and as a reminder to never make those mistakes again. Either that or remove every painting of every person who ever did anything wrong.
It’s better to keep them up then to take them down. If you take the painting down then you are technically retracting history from those around you. Why hide the past? Truth is better than a sugar coated story. You always have to have both sides to understand the situation. At least, that’s what I think about it. Like you said keep up as a reminder for the bad and as a history lesson that shows the world can change.
Yeah, I say keep them up if you’re going to remind people of the terrible things they did and why it shouldn’t be done today but history has a habit of sugarcoating a lot of things…
Yep, I agree with that.
