Delphi’s heart sank as Erek’s words slipped from his lips in an almost effortless manner, as if they didn’t truly capture the depth of his emotions. Her eyes glazed over with tears as she silently watched him. She knew the imminent danger that lay ahead, and the thought of leaving him behind only intensified her sorrow. As the group began to depart, Delphi knelt down beside Erek, her emotions overwhelming her. She leaned in to give him a soft kiss on the cheek, struggling to find the words to convey her gratitude. She thanked him for his protection and for blessing her with the ability to morph, and for being a vital part of their journey. Only for Erek to hear, only for Ereks ears, even as the imminent shadows of sorrow loomed over their bittersweet farewell.
Her heart heavy with sorrow, Delphi couldn’t help but feel sad about the knowledge that Erek would soon pass away. Though he had come to terms with it, Delphi couldn’t shake the overwhelming sadness that crept over her. She left the room quickly, eager to escape the inevitable explosions and the impending reality that their time together was limited.
Delphi was left in awe, her eyes fixated on Carmen as she radiated a sense of unyielding leadership. Her anger had ebbed away, and the group now stood in the parking lot. Carmen’s once harsh demeanor had softened, leaving Delphi feeling a sense of reliability and comfort. She had become someone who Delphi could trust, someone she desperately wanted to follow.
Even as Carmen chose not to nominate Delphi, Josias, or Hayden to morph first, Delphi understood that it was a protective ploy to shield them from harm. The thought settled her nerves and she soon found herself leaning into her twin brother’s support.
Delphi’s knees still trembled from the injuries sustained, but the presence of Carmen and Josias gave her strength in the face of this new reality.
