Is expressing your own opinion “running your mouth”? I’m wondering because one night when I and my mother were in our room at my sisters (we were living there) I was telling her how I prefer storebought mashed potatoes to the homemade ones we had to eat there because my brother-in-law is lactose intolerant. And He screamed at me to stop “running my mouth” and now even though we don’t live there anymore, I’m scared of expressing my OWN opinion. My brother in law and sister seme to have a vendetta against me and I no longer trust my brother in law. After that they were always talking sh*t about me and I no longer feel welcome there

To “Run One’s Mouth” usually is associated with someone who likes to talk.
“Ah Jane, she likes to run her mouth that one.”
Whilst it can be seen as a negative thing it isn’t always meant as such.
But at the same time, no simply expressing your opinion is not running your mouth per say. However if that person doesn’t want you to talk they might say it is

I don’t think expressing your opinion is running your mouth. I have experience with not being able to express my own opinions even though the other person is doing it. I would consider running your mouth as spreading rumors or saying rude things about people.

No! You’re also entitled to your own opinion and to be able to express it
