Do you think that higher education is necessary?
It depends on the kind of job you want to do. If you want to be something that requires a lot of skill and training such as a doctor of lawyer, then yes. But if you want to open your own clothing business for example, then no, not really. But it would help to have a bit of knowledge about enterprise and finance.
It depends on the job you want and the education level it requires. What’s the point of education if you won’t ever use it in your life?
Yes, I think higher education is necessary. There are higher education courses for things like hospitality and childcare and food hygiene. Everyone should learn what they can about the field they’re going to go into. They should learn from the best in the field so that they can build on that and do better, not stagnate. People just need to stop seeing higher education as only being lectures at uni
And higher education should be free. There should be more apprentice-like schemes where you work and study at the same time, too
Those would be so useful for so many professions, there’s only so much you can learn from being in a class
It depends on what you want to do later in life.
I know that electricians do all of their education in high school, do some trainee stuff and work. They advance by the amount of hours they’ve worked. I think it’s similar to builders and chefs.
There are many ways to learn stuff that you don’t need a higher (academic) education for. The important thing is that you actually do something with your time, learn stuff and get new experiences.
Agreed, I think the cost as well as the time constraint for some is often a major reason why people don’t pursue higher education.Especially in countries where the student debt is so austronamically high that you will be in debt for the rest of you life do want to continue schooling at a good college or university
An apprenticeship can also be a lot more educational than just learning from a book because of the more hands on approach an apprenticeship gives you.
It really depends on what field you’re going into. If you want to go into a profession in the medical or law field, then yes, higher education is necessary because you need to learn the skills needed to do that job effectively. However, in some industries like the entertainment industry, higher education is a bonus, but not always required. For example, you don’t have to get a degree in film to work as a set designer for film or TV. Same thing goes for being an actor on stage and on screen, what they look for is how well you perform. If you have training in acting, it might help you with some techniques, but overall, the director makes the decision to hire you based on your performance in your audition.
It depends on the job but normally higher education isn’t quite necessary for some jobs but more beneficial
I don’t think that it’s necessary, but I think that everyone should have free access to it, because just because a job doesn’t require a higher education, it shouldn’t mean that the person shouldn’t have the possibility educate themselves on things that interest them.
Do you plan to get a higher education?
I think this depends on the country and society you’re living in. Here it isn’t necessary at all unless you want to get a job that requires higher education (doctors, vets, all those jobs). But you can get a really good job even if you didn’t finish school, because it’s all about experience and skills here. If you work hard, they’ll teach you everything you need to know for that job while you’re already working. That could be seen as higher education, but it’s more like a lifelong learning
Same where I live
I live in a country where you can’t get a job even if you have a Master’s or Doctoral degree… so.
But yes, it is necessary.
Bump!
Yeah it’s necessary according to what jobs you wanna do in the future but it’s all about having a level of experience and skills in something to get the job.
It depends on what you want to be. Being a lawyer, a surgeon or any kind of doctor, or a mechanic would require a lot of studying. however, for subjects such as makeup or art don’t always require education because there’s a lot of successful artists who don’t have a degree that make a fair salary. I do think that higher education in the US shouldn’t cost as much as it does today. it should be free
Like most of the answers here, I also think it depends on what job you want in the future. Some jobs don’t require professional and higher education. And it that case, you’ll only need basic education, like the one you receive in high school. You can also take vocational courses if you cannot proceed to college or university. They also offer high-paying jobs.
But if you want to be a professional on a certain field, like in medicine, law, engineering, and many more, then yes it is necessary. Higher education specializes on the job you are planning to pursue, hence it helps you prepare yourself for the actual work.
However, here in my country, higher education is regarded highly. People here think lowly of non-college graduates, and would only hire someone on a well-paying job if they have finished at least a four-year course. This is why parents here strive to send their children to college so that they would have a financially-stable job after.
I agree with the others. It depends on the job you want to take, but mostly it is necessary. You always need to be educated and readied for whatever you want to take on.
I still don’t think it’s 100% necessary for everyone to attend post-secondary. It might help increase your career options based on the degree you have but unless your chosen field is one that requires it, it’s not something that’s necessary.
