Laika Films 🎞

L A I K A

Laika is an American stop-motion animation studio specializing in feature films, commercial content for all media, music videos and short films. They haven’t made a huge number of films but I personally think that all of them are very well made, unique and aesthetically interesting. Here are films made by Laika since 2009:

Coraline (2009)

ParaNorman (2012)

The Boxtrolls (2014)

Kubo and the Two Strings (2016)

Missing Link (2019)

I have seen Coraline and I really liked it! Obviously I’ve read the book too, Neil Gaiman is my favourite author. I feel like the film was really good! Different to the book but not too different and let’s face it the “other mother” is kinda scary, I wanted to research to see if she was a particular kind of demon and some stuff came up but not too much so I feel like that could be expanded upon. Lol sorry I went off on a tangent.

Very rad!

I do! I find it really interesting, obviously it takes a while to get stuff made but once it is made I love the way it looks!

Have you seen any of the films?
Yes! I’ve seen Coraline, ParaNorman and at some point The Boxtrolls (but I don’t remember it lol). I would like to see Kubo and the Two Strings!

What did you think about them?
They’re magical. Coraline terrified me when I was younger. The second mom was really scary hehe. All the characters were great in both worlds.

Do you like stop-motion?
Yeah! It’s pretty cool and different from all the 3D animated movies, or what they’re called.

She is terrifying!!!

Nah, that’s pretty cool. I want to know that too!

Yeah… I mean everything has to be created physically in miniature :scream: That must take some time. Super cool though!

Coraline and a bit of Box Trolls

They were so good and creative. Coraline in particular was so visually appealing. The “other” world looked amazing and creepy at the same time.

Yep! Stop-motion movies always have this charm that I like. Watching stop-motion movies in primary school was an experience

Yep, yep! :cold_sweat:

I agree! I’m just amazed by the fact that everything we see on screen is created irl :exploding_head:

So cool!

Oh my gosh Laika is incredible! Coraline is easily one of the best adaptations ever made, capturing Gaiman’s style and charm so perfectly that I don’t even know which version I prefer. Paranorman and Kubo are also incredible I love those films!

Laika really needs more love, thank you for making this thread!

I’ve seen Caroline and Corpse bride but I’m going to be honest on this one, I personally didn’t like them. Yes, that style is amazing, stop-motion is amazing but it’s not appealing to me.

Aw  Well, I guess the style isn’t appealing for everyone then. I personally think it looks cool
