This thread is similar to @Nessie’s Learn Greek! thread, only that it’s for another language, Chinese.
There are two types of Chinese, simplified Chinese and traditional Chinese.
Simplified Chinese
Most of the Chinese characters are easier to write, with less strokes for each character.
Example
Phonetics (拼音): wǒ
word: 我
Traditional Chinese
Most of the Chinese characters are harder to write, with more strokes for each character. This is often used in Taiwan, and the ‘letters’ are symbols instead of ABCs.
Now, let’s try learning annotated sound (注音)!
The way you pronounce it is the same way, just that you use different ‘letters’ to type out the Chinese characters.
Vowels
ㄚ - a (pronounced like the ‘a’ in ‘avocado’)
ㄜ - e (pronounced like the word ‘a’)
ㄧ - i (pronounced like the letter ‘e’)
ㄛ - o (pronounced like the ‘o’ in ‘organic’)
ㄨ - u (pronounced as ‘wu’)
ㄩ - ü (pronounced as ‘yu’)
You can try typing out these words and/or pasting them on google translate, then listen to how the google translate lady pronounce it.
