It was their song. Jacob and Luciano’s before Jacob’s world fell apart with the news that Luciano was leaving. Going to 'America again, though, with everything Luci had told him, the man didn’t even necessarily like it there. So why? A funeral for his father and just like that Luciano was leaving again. Jacob had liked Luciano as children when the man had left for the first time, and it was only luck that they ran into each other when the man had returned. A fiery passion between the two of them were the only words that could describe the relationship. Though, was it wrong to say that Jacob was upset when his love told him that he was leaving? It was in his lowest hour that he had made a mistake - found himself in bed with another man attempting to find any source of comfort that his boyfriend was abandoning him.
He was lost in the alcohol, and the body of another when Aline walked in - a scene of him on top of another man. Was it Aline and Luciano’s funeral in which it happened? Yes. It was a mistake. He never should have done it and she never should have seen it. But Luciano had practically broken up with him. So as Aline walked out, Jacob ran after her - begging her not to say anything to Luciano. That he could do it. And he did. A talk that resulted in all communication cut off between the two of them. Well… until a few days ago. Four months after Luciano had left, and Jacob could not get the man off of his mind. So he reached out. He had applied for a student visa, getting accepted to an American college due to his sporting abilities. And now, he was patiently waiting in a small Brazilian owned cafe playing their song, waiting for his love to walk through that door. The table was already filled with their favorite foods, snacks, drinks - everything that he could think of.
And then; He walked in. His eyes met the man, and when Jacob says, his heart fully stopped. Luciano was as beautiful as the day the man left. No, the day they met - dancing in the streets of the festival. Standing up immediately, patting his clothes down, Jacob brought his lips down to Luci’s hand placing a gentle kiss on them. “I’m glad you came… I was worried you wouldn’t,” He whispered, pointing to the seat opposite him. “Sit, please. Eat.” he added, taking a seat next to him and casually putting his hand on top of Luci’s on the table. “So. How is everything now that you’re back here?” He started, trying to ease Luci into this lunch.

The song playing in the cafe sort of hit him as he got closer to Jai. It was their song… which of course the cafe happened to be playing for this meeting. The table was full with food, something that Luciano had definitely not expected. There were all sorts of edible things, several of them he recognized as his favourite pastries from back home. The cafe, the song, the food, Jacob… all of them combined gave him a wave of nostalgia for Brasil. Some days he missed it more than others, and all of this Brasil-related stuff definitely made today to be one of those days.
Maybe that was really why he’d come to this meeting. Because he missed Brasil.
Jacob stood as he got closer to the table, pressing a soft kiss against the back of Lui’s hand like he was a Disney prince. Despite the corniness, he could feel his heart fluttering at the action. Stop it, he admonished himself. He pulled his hand out of Jai’s sooner than he was supposed to, still pretty mindful of the fact that he was in a committed relationship. “Well, yeah. I came,” he said simply, sliding into the seat that Jacob had pointed as being his.
Luciano took one of the beijinhos, which were sort of these sweet balls made with condensed milk, coconut and butter. They had these little white coconut flakes on top of them, and as a kid he used to have them as often as he could—literally every gathering there was, he was searching for those treats. He popped it into his mouth, taking a bite of the sweet little ball of heaven. They were best from this little bakery in Brasil, but this little bite from this Brazilian American store was pretty good too. “Thank you for buying all of this,” he said to him, smiling lightly. Jai then moved his hand to rest on top of Lui’s, asking him an incredibly casual question, as if they were just an ordinary couple sitting for lunch. Luciano frowned, pulling his hand back slightly. “Can you… cut the crap?” He sighed, shaking his head. “You’re here. In Beryl Heights. Why?”
“Well yeah, I came”
A soft smile played upon Jái’s lips as he looked into the man’s eyes. Though he could feel his heart drop ever-so-slightly as Lúi pulled his hand away from his lips. Jacob wasn’t an idiot. He knew things weren’t the same. Four months had passed and there was no communication between the two. Mostly because Aline had told him to stay away and he wanted to respect that. After all, Jacob couldn’t come to America and Luciano wasn’t coming back to Brasil. And everyone knew that long-distance never worked. So yes, Jái stayed quiet. Messed around with a few people back home. Left Luci alone, despite not being able to stop thinking about him. Well, that was until he finally got word on his visa. The moment Jái saw that visa, the only thing he could think was 'Luci". Could anyone blame him? Jacob Ronaldo had fallen in love with the man a long time ago, and still felt that way to this very day.
So when the man thanked him for the array of food, Jái nodded with a smile, finding himself lost in his eyes once again. Though it was only when Luciano pulled his hand away with the words " Cut the crap" “Por el amor de Dios, Can I not just know about how you’re doing now Lúi, I haven’t seen you in months,” Jacob stated sadly before taking a deep breath. “I applied for school here and a visa the moment you told me you were leaving again. I didn’t think anything would come out of it but…” Jái mumbled, “I missed you, mi Amor, can you blame me?” he stated softly. “I wanted to see you… to see if there was anything I could do to convince you to give me another chance. Look, I’ve made my mistakes…” Jai started, “I have. And I’m sorry. I can’t change my past, but I can fix my future. But the one thing I can’t forget is you. So I was hoping that… asking you to come here… that we could just… talk about it.”

“Por el amor de Dios, Can I not just know about how you’re doing now Lúi, I haven’t seen you in months.” He leaned back in his seat, crossing his arms across his chest. Perhaps he’d reacted a bit harshly to the question, but it felt a lot like him as a tactic to dance around the elephant in the room, and he wasn’t here for that. So he stayed quiet, letting Jacob continue on.
He didn’t know anything about Jai applying for a visa; this was the first he was hearing of it. It did make more sense now though, why he seemingly tried to re-insert himself in Luciano’s life out of the blue. When Luciano left Brazil, he left this relationship behind too and tried to bury the feelings and just move on. But with Jacob coming here, some of the feelings that had stuck around but had been long pushed down were beginning to emerge again. "I missed you, mi Amor, can you blame me?” Lui sighed, meeting his gaze. “Jacob, it’s been four months. Four months and… nothing. Things have changed. I’ve moved on. Que esperabas? That I was waiting for you? That I just couldn’t get you off my mind?” He chuckled mirthlessly. “'Cause that’s not the case.”
“I wanted to see you… to see if there was anything I could do to convince you to give me another chance. Look, I’ve made my mistakes…” Luciano snorted involuntarily, finding the vast understatement that he made to be amusing. “I have. And I’m sorry. I can’t change my past, but I can fix my future. But the one thing I can’t forget is you. So I was hoping that… asking you to come here… that we could just… talk about it.” He raised an eyebrow at him, bitter amusement curling his lips in a dry smile. “Talk about what? The fact that you cheated on me with my cousin during my grandfather’s funeral?” The smile fell off his face as soon as the words were spoken, and he shook his head, regretting it. He could remember very distinctly the torrent of emotions that he’d felt when Jai had told him about it, remembered the whole talk they had, remembered saying he forgave him… but some wounds never fully healed. “No, okay, sorry. That… I shouldn’t’ve said that. But what is there to talk about? We… it’s over, it’s been over. We can’t go back to what it was.”
"…Que esperabas? That I was waiting for you? That I just couldn’t get you off my mind?” He chuckled mirthlessly. “'Cause that’s not the case.”
It would be an understatement to say that Jái’s heart fell ever so slightly at the words. Nothing? Not even sliight nostologia thought about the months they had spent togehter? Every moment with one another - going on dates, enjoying each other’s company in the morning… and night. No one could say what they had wasn’t a whiirlwind romance. Sure, perhaps something deep down in Jacob had hoped that Luci had thought about him over the past few months. God knew he had. But wiith those words, Jacob was struck unable to speak as Luciano continued talking - up until he brought up the fact that he slept with Lui’s cousin… at his funeral.
Jái’s eyes fluttered close at what Jacob knew what all of this was about. He stayed like that for a few moments before finally continuing “You were going to break up with me, Lúi. You were going to leave me. Can you blame me for being upset… for getting drunk, for…” he was going to say finding comfort in someone else but he held himself back. Until, of course, Lui finally said that everything was over. With a sign, Jacob stood up - the music changing in the background. With that, Jacob put his hand out towards the man. “At least give me one last dance? And I’ll leave.”
@unsungcheerio - correction The guy who’s gonna add SPICE to gio and lui’s relationship (well after dancing with him and kissing him right when Gio comes in)

He had heard this explanation before, and it still didn’t do much to resolve any of the lingering hurt he had. Lui looked down at the table as he spoke, rubbing his temples. He never understood how Jacob thought that was an acceptable excuse for cheating on him—like he hadn’t been upset either, like he wasn’t looking forward to leaving Brazil and Jacob behind. The trip had been coming to an end, yes, but as it approached he was beginning to think that maybe they could make it work and maybe he could schedule another trip during Spring Break or even earlier; his family had money, affording it wasn’t a problem. The plan had been to break up, he knew that, but he was starting to think that maybe they didn’t have to. Then, Jai told him that he had slept with someone else and… he just didn’t see the point of putting up all the fuss of maintaining something that wasn’t going to work out anyways.
Luciano looked up at him, his eyes narrowed slightly. “I was upset too Jai, you don’t think I was? You think I wanted to leave you?” He scoffed, shaking his head. “I loved you, I—” Lui cut himself off, looking anywhere but at him. “It doesn’t matter now anyway,” he muttered.
Jacob stood, offering a hand to him. "At least give me one last dance? And I’ll leave.” He hesitated, staring at his hand for several moments before he took it, standing too. “Fine. Only one dance.” He had a bad feeling about this, one that he couldn’t shake, but it was just a harmless dance, so he wasn’t sure why he was feeling so apprehensive.
