I even considered mentioning my story for the shelf this year when they were first looking for recommendations. I’m not Arab but my MC and her whole family is. But then I thought… no, that wouldn’t be a good idea because I don’t want a bunch of hate comments directed at me, saying that the shelf is only for AUTHORS who are Arab, even if their characters aren’t.
But my story later got featured on the Women’s History Month shelf, which was great.

That is my biggest problem about these minority shelves, people talk about how you shouldn’t get special treatment based of things you can’t control (i.e. race, gender, sexuality, etc) but then come in strong about how there should be a male shelf that gives attention to male author instead of giving attention to stories with a Male MC (no gender choice) that are well written, directed and has an original plot. And if one of those stories happen to be written by a female so what, why are you attacking someone who wrote an amazing story that should be featured just because they don’t identify as a male.
Just like the LGBTQ contest people coming in screaming how straight people should give this contest to LGBTQ writers, the contest is not who is the best gay/lesbian/bi/aro/etc author, the contest is about who can write an amazing story featuring LGBTQ characters. But dare to say anything like that and 30 people jump on you saying you don’t understand the struggle that they’ve gone through. Like B*tch everyone has gone through struggles we may not have gone through the same struggles but that doesn’t mean my struggles are more or less important then yours.

The Forums are getting burned to piece rn and I couldn’t care less (I’m so glad in fact). Anyways, I have a 2 day ban because I “promoted this forum” I only mentioned it but whatever screw up everything episode and also I recently joined due to Episode’s sheer incompetence.
