Let's Talk About Something

Guys, okay. Let’s talk about something.

So, the first time I came on Episode forums, I was so clueless, I didn’t know a SINGLE thing about what to do and what not to do. I was kind of like rushing to make backgrounds and sharing overlays to the community.

For example, I took a png image from google and used it to make a background but then I didn’t realize I shouldn’t have been doing that because it was copyright. As well as using someone background from DeviantArt even though u didn’t know anything about their terms of use, etc. So, people warned me about it, and I NEVER ONCE edited a png image from google AGAIN. I watched Joseph Evans videos about copyright stuff and it changed me FOREVER. So there I learn my lesson. 1 or 2 mistakes you can learn and be mindful of and warn others about.

Now, I use pixabay to make sure I make backgrounds free n using public domain assets, so I’ll be alert and careful next time. The things you don’t know, people MUST ALWAYS warn you. Did you guys ever felt this way?

(Gonna edit this post so I’ll see if im making any sense.)

I do feel this way. I also didnt know much about that stuff when I started, and that’s why I agree people should get a warning before getting attacked about it.

I know some may say it’s common sense, but not for everyone I guess.

Copyright law is so prevalent in our day-to-day lives that honestly we kinda need training in it from a fairly young age I’m ngl. Like, look both ways before crossing the road, don’t take sweets from strangers, don’t take images from google because they could very well be intellectual property.

Jokes aside, it is actually a huge part of our lives now, whether we like it or not. It should probably be taught in school

It is taught in school, but more for words than images in my experience.

Oooh, yeah plagiarism is taught excellently in literature courses because you’re writing papers that will be graded like professional pieces.

Copyright isn’t taught quite as much in my experience. When I was in college we got a basic ‘don’t steal’ lecture, but even then it didn’t go in-depth, and that was college. From what I’ve heard other people have had the same experiences, though that isn’t by any means proof of the whole education system globally. I bet there are some great teachers out there who go beyond the curriculum to give info on copyright (or other things useful in later life, I definitely had some great standout teachers who did this)

Yep, during my school days, NO ONE was even taught about copyright in my country, but plagiarism yes.
