Mental health in K-pop community

For some this might be a sensitive topic, but I feel like it’s something we should talk about. In relation to other music genres K-pop stars commit suicide way more and they have a lot of pressure to perform. In general the artists aren’t treated well and have very poor contracts.

This sure is an issue, but how should we as individuals deal with it and how should international society deal with it? On individual level should we not listen to K-pop anymore cause of this, or would more attention for the genre only help to in the end solve the issues? Should the government or international organizations step in and put more pressure on the companies to solve the issues or will that only work the other way around? I’m looking forward to hearing opinions about the matter.

Commuting suicide is kind of personal, I don’t think that just because some stats say k-pop artists do it more than other artists means much tbh. When you are ready to do something like that… does it really matter what you did as a profession?

I don’t think that’s the issue here, it’s a problem because mental health is not discussed very much in South Korea. Especially with idols from big companies, they’re not well cared for.

It does matter if their profession was the reason they committed suicide and that’s proven in a few cases. Also a lot of people who were in the K-pop community have opened up about how bad it was for their mental health. It really asks a whole lot from the performers, if you aren’t in the very best groups you don’t get paid or very limited and just have bad contacts. It is proven there is a relation between the two.

They are just human though, shouldn’t we be fighting suicide as a whole instead of fixating on stupid bar charts?

And did these words come from the mouth of the dead person?

I don’t easily believe this kind of stuff

That’s what we’re trying to do, and what we’ve been trying to do for years? Young people around the world kill themselves every day, literally everyone moves on after a day. But that’s not ok at all…

In my opinion no, if there is a sector or certain group where the suicide numbers are extremely high in comparison to other sectors that’s an actual issue that’s easier solvable than in other places. Sounds messed up but for the same money invested you are able to save more lives basically cause you can really focus better on a solution

Honestly the problem is society, good luck fixing that :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

No killing yourself ismt okay, but when you are ready to do it, it doesn’t make a difference what you did in life you are ready for death.

More or less yeah, one k-pop star mentioned her job and mental health cause of that as reason for not wanting to live anymore in an handwritten suicide note basically…

If they wouldn’t have been in that sector they wouldn’t have had any or at least less reason to want to commit suicide.

Some people do so because they want to escape their problems, not because they actually wanna die.

Problem is when you focus on one group in particular that drags other groups down.

This as well, such a job can force you to do things like this because they don’t know how to handle with it anymore, they don’t want to die but don’t want to deal with the pressure and issues that come with their work anymore and they don’t feel like they have any other way out.

Most people don’t want to die, they still die though

Biggest thing that affects suicidal people is society, not things that have been made into a bar chart by people who don’t know Sh!t

And a lot of shady things go on in the entertainment industry, so there goes another reason.
