My Problem with Netflix

So, this is more so a rant than anything. Netflix really has a tendency to have a good idea at first, but then overdo it and rely too much on that idea. They produce too many seasons of those shows, sure they are unique and interesting at first, but since they do well, they get extremely commercial and seasons get pushed out at a rapid speed. You feel the change from the first seasons, when it was made with love. The pressure Netflix puts on shows that actually do well make it so the next seasons just rarely reach that level again. Then then focus on those shows that ā€˜do wellā€™, instead of coming up with new interesting ideas. Do you guys agree with me on this, or not? Letā€™s discuss this!

i agree
and not to be anti-capitalism on main but i think the main issue with this is companies valuing profit over quality storytelling
you can also see this issue with Netflix subtitles (i donā€™t watch dubbed stuff so i cant say anything there), theyā€™re rushed and not the best quality because what matters to Netflix is to put the thing out and for it to get as many views as possible, not quality

also this isnā€™t a Netflix exclusive problem and has been going on for years. for example: Supernatural was meant to end after season 5, but because of how well it was doing, it was renewed again and again. and you can see the decrease in quality from S6 on

My problem with Netflix is that theyā€™ll continue to remake a second and third film for ones that ā€œgo wellā€, but then if thereā€™s one season of a show people like, theyā€™ll cancel it before the second season.

100% agreed.

Yeah, they definitely arenā€™t the greatest often  I remember reading a South Korean talking about in how many different ways Squid Game was for example translated wrong.

Sure, sure. I decided to focus on Netflix here as thatā€™s the only entertainment service I actively use, so Iā€™m sure other streaming services have the same problem, just personally Iā€™ve not come across those as Iā€™ve not used those for a significant time at leastā€¦

That makes it even worse yes. But they would probably ruin those shows as well by over commercialising them as well, thatā€™s how I comfort myself when a show I would love to see more seasons from doesnā€™t get one. Kinda messed up, their focus is honestly just in the wrong placeā€¦

Well, thatā€™s probably true, sadly.

Ahh, they gotta bring bak ā€œIm Not Okay With Thisā€ :sob:

One of the shows they had, based off the book (of the same title) by Charles Forsman
I ended up really loving the show, so it sucks that they ended up canceling season two :woman_shrugging:

Ah okay. Thatā€™s gutting for you. My one would be cancelling Julie & the Phantoms after one season.
