I think everyone (or… most people) who has Netflix knows about the teen movies they make since it’s always on the top of the screen when they are promoting it. But I’d be interested to know other people’s opinions on them. What do you think of the teen movies like The Kissing Booth, TATBILB, Sierra Burgess and The Perfect Date? Do you like them? If so, why? (Or why not?) Which is your favourite or least favourite?
I like teen movies I just finished up The Half Of It. It was pretty neat, although many of Netflix’s is really cliche haha
Ahh I loved The Half of It and got a huge crush on Daniel Diemer (Paul Munsky) after it haha!
But I agree with the other ones being cliche (they are also kind of really problematic too…)
they suckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
Any movie with Noah Scented Mayo is awful. Change my mind.
Noah Scented Mayo! Haven’t heard that one before I love that haha (I usually say Noah Centimetre). I think the only one(s) tolerable are To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. (But I don’t like his character in it).
The only thing really good with Noah Centimetre is The Fosters. But that’s because it was before he got into Netflix and all THOSE movies.
Hahaha Noah Centimeter is new for me But yeah, TATBILB really isn’t that bad, but I feel like I didn’t like it just since he was in it (I feel like he is the male lead in every single teen Netflix movie and is so overrated.)
I haven’t actually watched the Fosters but I’ve heard of it and might try it out
I don’t like the movie “Tall Girl”, but boy did the movie result in some great memes
I mean tatbilb was fun when I was extremely bored one night, I honestly kinda enjoyed it even if it was far from the best movie I’ve ever seen
His character was so annoying in the second one though (may be influenced by the fact that… he is annoying). I am a proper John Ambrose fan over Peter Kavinsky.
I think it could have been done so well! But, yes, it was a complete fail haha. I watched for Sabrina Carpenter.
I agree! I think The Kissing Booth, Sierra Burgess and TATBILB were all released… around the same time. But TATBILB is by FAR the best out of those three. (Which doesn’t even say much considering the problematic mess The Kissing Booth and Sierra Burgess are)
Completely agree with you on that one, I watched trailers of all 3 and this seemed like the only decent one
Ahhhhh I could rant about those two movies for so long!!!
Go ahead tho, I mean that’s why this thread is here I’m interested to read it!
Okay you awakened the ranting-beast in me haha
Here’s a little one about The Kissing Booth.
This movie is literally like an Episode story. The MC (Ellie) is portrayed as ‘weak’ and makes a lot of bad choices.
First of all, right at the start Ellie splits her trousers and has to wear a really short and tight skirt. This isn’t a big problem, but in what world are the only two things you own a tiny skirt and now-split trousers?? That causes one of the worst problems with this movie. When at school, a random guy grabs her ass in school. This is obviously something really serious that can make people feel uncomfortable in their surroundings or experience trauma from it. How do they handle it? They make it something light-hearted (but not in a way that’s effective… I don’t know how it could be effective) and it is brushed off as if Ellie is overreacting?? She was being accused of ‘asking for it’ because of the way she was dressed and no one in the movie said anything.
This is where Ellie becomes an Episode MC. Not long after that ^ situation, Ellie takes the number of the guy who sexually assaulted her (that fact completely forgotten after the first 10 minutes). if anyone reading this wants to see sexual assault presented RIGHT, season 2 of Sex Education does it amazingly. As well as this, the guy who accused her of ‘asking for it’ becomes Ellie’s love interest. THIS SCENE ahhh omg. This is not romantic or funny in the slightest, and it’s scary that the main character actually went with him because this is toxic and not something that should have been portrayed as something romantic and cute.
And this movie was promoted so much on Netflix, which kind of makes it even worse. Anyone with a Netflix account was shown that. Including young and dangerously influenceable kids who will watch it thinking that sexual assault is something to be dismissed and that the violence shown in the scene above is romantic and acceptable.
I probably missed so much, I haven’t seen the movie in so long and this is all literally from the top of my head. So please anyone argue or debate with me on this or add to it if you have better memory of the movie.
maybe I’ll come back with a Sierra Burgess rant too soon haha
Loved your rant, haha! And I think you are completely right, it definitely sounds like a kinda toxic movie tbh… They should portray sexual assault way better, I mean no one should take that lightly and definitely not romanticize it.
Hahaa thank you. I’m so angry they’re doing a sequel too. I hate that enough people like it that they could make a sequel. I’ll definitely hate-watch it. But there are so many relatively good movies on Netflix that need a sequel, why are they wasting time on The Kissing Booth??
That’s bad, like that’s really bad. They should invest that in good quality movies (or series but they kinda lack good movies) instead of something that seems to be toxic
Sooo… I don’t have Netflix but I know there are loads of people who do. I bet loads of users here have it and can start having @Discussions about teen films on there.
I only know of one, even though I haven’t seen it, and that would be The Christmas Prince, starring Rose McIver. At least, I think that’s what it is called.
I was reading this sort of bottom-to-top, and I thought you were talking about an Episode story! But it was originally a Wattpad novel, so what do you expect
Well, it sounds very much like an Episode story too haha
