Veronica and Enrique sat awkwardly in the elevator, the tension between them thick and palpable. They had been stuck for what felt like hours, and both were feeling restless and frustrated.
Suddenly, Veronica turned to Enrique and blurted out the truth. “I never wanted to break up with you,” she said, her voice shaking. “My dad made me do it because he thought you weren’t good enough for me.”
Enrique was shocked. All these years he had thought that Veronica had simply dumped him because she didn’t care, and now he realized that she had been forced to do it. He felt a wave of anger and hurt wash over him.
“How could you not tell me?” he asked, his voice dripping with disappointment. “I thought you were just a heartless bitch who didn’t care about me.”
Veronica hung her head in shame. “I know, and I’m sorry,” she said, tears welling up in her eyes. “I was just so scared of my dad and I didn’t know what to do. I never wanted to hurt you.”
Enrique sighed and took a moment to collect his thoughts. He knew that he couldn’t stay angry at Veronica forever, especially since she had been honest with him about what had happened.
“I forgive you,” he said finally. “But we need to talk about this more when we get out of here.”
The two of them spent the rest of the time in the elevator talking and apologizing to each other, and by the time they were rescued, they were both on good terms again.
From then on, Veronica and Enrique were determined to make things work between them, no matter what her overprotective dad said. They were able to move past the hurt and pain of the past and build a strong, healthy relationship together. And in the end, they proved that love really can conquer all.
