Adrian exhaled slowly, standing up straighter as Vincenzo’s question hung in the air. For a moment his gaze was on his wife who did not seem sure about her husband’s way of resolving the issue, but couldn’t do anything about it. “What can I do?” That was the right question, the only question. No hesitation, no doubts - which only proved Adrian was right and Vincenzo was the person they needed right now. The only person who could help their daughter… That’s what Adrian had to make him believe in.
And the answer… well, it was simple, wasn’t it? It had to be.
He stepped closer, just enough for the morning light to catch the sharp angles of his face, the exhaustion settling in the hollows beneath his eyes. He had played his part perfectly so far. The worried father… The desperate man. And in truth, some of it wasn’t even an act. He had anticipated many outcomes, but watching Aurora now, too still, too pale, it was impossible to ignore the bite of uncertainty creeping in.
“We believe it’s a curse," Adrian began, keeping his tone measured, precise. But he was quiet, he tried to be quiet as if saying it any louder would make things worse. “It si something… something we can’t reach with traditional magic. We tried… Every spell, every countercharm we know but nothing." His eyes flickered over Vincenzo’s features, calculating. “Which is why we need someone with a different approach." A different kind of shadow magic.
The words didn’t need to be spoken aloud. They both knew. Vincenzo knew. Adrian let the silence stretch for just a moment, watching him, watching the way his expression shifted. “This isn’t just about healing, Vincenzo. It’s dangerous, more dangerous than you’re used to but I’ve seen the things you can do…" Adrian pressed forward. “You’ll have to connect with her… Let the shadows bridge you to whatever’s inside of her, wherever she’s been taken." He inhaled sharply, then finally stepped back, his gaze shifting back to his poor daughter.
“You can say no," he gave Vincenzo that much, a hint of pain in his voice. The pain of a father who was worried about his precious daughter. “I won’t force you into this. But if you can do it… if you can reach her… Then you might be the only one who can bring her back."
