Healing wasn’t a competition. Tae knew that and yet, he couldn’t help but compare himself to his parents and sister. It had always felt like they had been able to return to ‘normal’, whatever that meant, much sooner than he had. But maybe Ayla had a point. He had made progress, whether he recognized it or not but he needed to hear that from someone who was not his parents or sister. “Thank you, noona.” He lightly squeezed her as he spoke, hoping it would emphasize how he felt.

“Wait, haven’t I?” He responded when she asked if he would play for her one day. He then stopped to think about whether or not she had heard him play, thinking she must have but now doubting himself. “Anyways, of course I’ll play for you. Not today though. I don’t have enough energy left for that today.” He added, not wanting to get her hopes up but putting the offer out there.

Tae stopped at started at Ayla for a second after her outburst. “Oh. You’ve seriously never noticed.” He said after he felt his moment had lapsed. “I’ve been doing it for the past six years. It’s medicinal, I promise. My mom didn’t want me relying on pain medication after the accident, but I still needed something so this was the compromise.” He explained, leaving out the fact that he also had some for not medicinal purposes. There was pause before Ayla picked up her basket, placing it on top of his bed without a second thought, causing Tae to let out an exasperated sigh. “I think I can do without it actually.” He responded playfully when she said his room could use some glitter, looking around as if she was debating where to put it.
