Tae delicately placed a vinyl record on his record player, turned it on, and then delicately placed down the needle, listening as the familiar music filled his room. He pulled the suit bag with his outfit for the night out of his closet and carefully unzipped it. He got changed, fastening his vest before looking in his mirror to tie his tie. His dark sleeve of tattoos was still visible underneath the thin fabric of his shirt sleeve. He made sure his hair was styled to his liking before fastening his mask on his face. The mask gave him a strange sense of comfort - for an evening, he didn’t have to be Tae Duman unless he wanted to. When he was Tae Duman, he was the black sheep. The odd one out. The mistake.
He entered the ball with his older sister, Felicity, but the two parted ways quickly upon arriving. Anyone who didn’t know the pair would have likely assumed that they didn’t know each other. It wasn’t done out of malice but more so that the longer they stayed together, the more people would be alerted to the fact that they were the pair of siblings that was meant to be three and that carried a certain weight to it which they were happy to shed for an evening.
It wasn’t often that he got an opportunity to just be Tae and he intended to make the most of it.
Would he typically consider himself a bold person? Not in the slightest but something about having a mask to hide behind was inspiring Tae to be bold and he found himself approaching a mysterious-looking man with a bird mask. Even with the masks, everyone was recognizable to a certain degree and so he was pretty confident that he had never met this man before.
“Good evening.” He greeted him, an effortless smile on his face. “Can I have this dance?” He asked as the music changed, offering the man his hand. As much as this wasn’t like himself, Tae was curious to see if the man would accept his proposal and wondered where the night might take him.
