Not sure what I'm doing wrong

Hi, so I’ve done various things to push out my story, such as promoting on Instagram, tiktok, my story got shelved in August and I managed to achieve 112 reads for 3 months to 1k reads, and I thought that being shelved would be my big break, and I’d finally recieve a ton of gems, fanmail, and have many readers/personal, interactive fanbase, but now it feels like I’ve gone back to square one, and I’m not growing the way I had hoped/expected. How long does it actually take for an Episode Author to gain all these things, like genuinely, because I’ve done a lot, but I still haven’t reached where I want to be? It’s disheartening.

It takes a lot of effort to keep getting reads, gems, and so on. I know it can be disheartening, since you thought you had made pretty good progress. Is your story complete? Or ongoing? I would suggest looking at Dizzyshadows’ writing help guides. She has one on promoting, which could help you get farther along. You will need to subscribe to her guide on her Patreon account. You can also ask her for tips on promoting, as she was a shelved author multiple times. Additionally, you may want to check out these other accounts as well. They are also paid subscription accounts.

Hi, my story is still ongoing. Thanks for the links, but I’m currently not able to do subscriptions at the moment. I just thought it was a bit strange bc I’d have to publish many episodes to get my reads and etc, whereas many other authors could post few episodes and get thousands of reads, so it was hard.

I completely understand! It really depends on the story plus the episode audience. I was a bit dishearted too when I first started out. I don’t have a lot of reads either but I know other authors that have a lot of reads. There will be times that promoting and adding episodes doesn’t bring in reads and other times it will. It also depends on possibly the time of the year. Though I could be wrong about that part. How many users follow your social media accounts? You could try different types of promoting to change how readers see your story? What genre is you your story in? If you don’t mind me asking these questions.

I have 129 followers on Instagram (I started last year in 2024 December) and tik tok only 3 followers because I opened my acc in July. But I tend to get to get a lot of interactions when I post Episode Art edits on my insta account . Also my story is in the drama genre (which I know is hard to trend in since it’s one of the popular genres on Episode).

I completely understand! Do you make episode edits of your characters? Or sneak peak edits might bring more attention to the story as well. My story is the drama section as well. It can be pretty hard to promote in that genre. You could do little trailers for your story through tiktok? These are just suggestions that might help out. You just have to keep chipping away until you get a break through on activity again. Just don’t burn yourself out by doing too much work for your story at once.
