What minority groups (orientation, race, disability, etc)
Do you think need more representation?
Moved to discussion and added the discussion tag.
For sure really any race that’s not white needs more representation.
Yeah, society seems to act like white is the default.
the people who are in between I think.
Yes, of course we do. Of every minority!
Native Americans!
Exactly what I was thinking!
They really got the short end of the stick.
They do.
Pacific Islanders as well.
Ah, yeah! I think May is actually AAPI month.
yes, I’ve seen some stuff for it recently
Hispanic characters that aren’t just from the USA.
I agree! Shame is that the US is the place where all the most famous and popular live action everything gets made.
More characters that have developmental disabilities like Autism and aren’t just simplified to either being “quirky” or “nerdy”, because neither are truly Autistic.
Albinos. The only show I ever watched with an albino was Overlord, and she was a lizard person.
Native Americans, but also Natives from all over the world. And believe me, they are all over the world.
Intersex people are underrepresented in real life, but also in fiction.
Yeah, as much as I respect that the USA has a lot of Hispanic people and they take pride in their cultures, I haven’t actually seen a leading character who’s non-USA Hispanic and isn’t a Mexican/Colombian drug lord in North American popular culture recently.
And also, the amount of just “illegal immigrant” storylines in popular shows is becoming a meme now. Yes, I know that it is an important issue, but not every single Hispanic person has an illegal relative or one that they want to have citizenship. Some are already naturalized, and some are 2nd Gen+.
I fully agree. Autistic here. I’ve also had a couple friends with Albinism, and my ex boyfriend also was Albino.
My ex was a jerk though, so I get anxious if I see albinos now…bad memories.
There was this guy, Edgar Winter. Albino, very gifted musician, also was a scientologist.
