Plant-based VS Veganism - Is there a real difference?

After doing some research I came to the conclusion that there are differences but it also depends on the person.

Being plant-based (or having a plant rich diet) means that you focus your diet on eating vegetables and things that don’t come from animals however this doesn’t mean that you don’t eat meat or consume animal products at all. Being plant-based means you mostly eat plant-based foods. There may be some people who don’t eat meat or consume animal products but don’t want to be known as vegan because of the connotations associated with being vegan or they just prefer being called plant-based.

Veganism on the other hand means you don’t consume meat or animal products at all which can extend to clothing and material things too. I have genuinely met some vegan people though who think that you also need to be an animal rights activist in order to be vegan (not just ThatVeganTeacher) which isn’t really true and isn’t stated in any of the definitions except some obscure websites.

Anyway @Foodies

  • What do you guys think?
  • Have you ever considered either of these diets?

Yes, there is a difference
There’s also vegetarianism which is different
Most people confuse that with plant-based diet

Nope-

I don’t think I would ever be only to eat plants or non-animal products for even a week.

Which is kind of funny because some vegans who consider themselves animal activist aren’t animal activist lol, because they forcell y feed their carnivorous or omnivorous animals only non-animal products and plants (which fellas I don’t recommend, because carnivorous and omnivorous animals need meat to survive.) Instead of you know buying an animal who only eats plants-

Oml I genuinely can’t stand people who claim to love animals but don’t even feed their pets the right food, if you want a herbivore pet then get a rabbit or smth :joy:

For real. If you know you’re not going to feed your carnivorous/omnivorous animal then get a herbivore? Why do a lot of them like taggiting meat eater animals-

From what I understood, plant based is less restrictive. They don’t necessary get rid of all animal products. It’s just that their diet is mainly based on plant-based products. The bulk of their diet needs to be plant based.

From what I understood as well, veganism is more likely to be a moral thing and a plant-based diet is more likely to be a health thing. Obviously, there is a lot of cross-over. You can be plant-based for moral reasons and there are some health benefits of a vegan diet if you do it the right way, but that’s usually how it goes!

Going by the definitions El gave, I would consider a plant-based diet because there are many alternatives for meat, I often don’t even taste any differences, but sometimes I really just want meat  Veganism isn’t really something I’d ever consider because I have chickens and I don’t really see a reason why I shouldn’t eat the eggs. It’s okay if people don’t want to eat any animal products but I’d rather eat the eggs than let them just lie around

@Foodies What do you think about this?

To me, they both seem very similar and I enjoy meat too much to do either.
