Political compass quiz

Haha American political definitions of “liberal” and “leftist” don’t actually reflect political theory! You’d actually be considered a leftist in American politics because Liberals would be pretty much the centre of the compass xD

American politics is quite right-wing compared to a lot of other developed countries

The “Libertarian/Authoritarian” dichotomy on the compass refers to how much you believe in state policing on a social level!. Do you think the state should be involved in people’s lives? Hitler and Stalin were both Authoritarians even though one was left wing and one was right wing. The people who think businesses should own everything and that there should be no taxes even to pay for things like healthcare, education and roads would be right wing libertarian.

Obviously Left/Right is about economics!

So basically the x-axis is what you believe in terms of economic issues and the y-axis would be what you believe in terms of social issues

So just in case anyone is confused with how political parties the world over sit on the political compass, here you go:

No one ever sits on the authoritarian left side of the compass because that’s actually communism and the US has a phobia of communism, but apparently not fascism (extreme authoritarian right is fascism)

Hilary Clinton was a fascist?

She’s not authoritarian enough haha!

But UKIP is a fascist party by definition :open_mouth:

Ohhh so not quite! :joy:

Yeah haha! But Trump is pretty close! Hence why people keep calling him a fascist… and a lot of his supporters hear “fascist” and say “he’s not gassing Jews in chambers”.

That’s a stupid argument. Nazism is a type of fascism and not even the Nazis started out with atrocities like that, but they were always fascist. Italy was also fascist. You don’t need to be a literal Nazi or support the fascist movements of the 30s and 40s to be a fascist today

I don’t really know how to interpret my own results to be honest :joy: at least I know I’m not a fascist

Uhm, basically the same as last time I did it just a little more extreme especially more towards the left :grimacing: I decided to be more extreme in my answers cause last time I choose agree or disagree in quite a lot of the cases…

I’m hardly an expert (I only did one year of politics at university and hated the analysis side of things. I much prefer political history rather than political theory), but you are quite a moderate left-libertarian. You’re on the same side of the compass as I am! :3 The political parties in the UK you might want to vote for are the ones that fall in line with your goals! Very little is perfect, though. Most parties are too moderate for me, for example!

Probably not made on the exact same scale, but here are the Swedish political parties. Many of the more right winged parties have some foundation in socialistic ideas but don’t like EU and immigrants etc.

Edit: not sure if they’re called right winged… but further from the left? LOL

Communism you say :eyes::laughing:

I guess that’s what you’d call the shifting of the Overton window!

In America, the Overton window has been shifted to the right – the parties that Americans call “centre-left” or “liberal” are still on the right-wing side of the spectrum. “Centrists” are very much right-wing and people like Bernie Sanders are considered “leftist” When they’re pretty moderate, almost centre-left. Everything is viewed from a right-wing perspective, so the centre is on the right!

It seems as though Swedish politics has shifted the Overton Window to the left :stuck_out_tongue:

Ohhh, yes, that makes sense.

The “Sweden Democrats” is the party compared to Front Nationale and Trump etc. but they’re really economic leftists/center with some very strange ideas which I don’t agree with. :woman_shrugging:t2:

I think I have voted on the Liberals and Center…

Edit: The Left, Social Democrats and Green party are allied and counted as the left block. The others are in the right block except from the Sweden Democrats which is on their own.
