Portraying Domestic Abuse In Stories

So, Im in a episode group and I was reading comments about someone portraying domestic abuse. She does know tht it can trigger others, etc. She will put warnings in every chapter, so what do u guys think? Of course shes going to do this correctly n maybe add some awareness to it but its her story so idk.

What genre is the story?

If she does it correctly, adds a trigger warning at the beginning of each chapter and does not romanticize it, I don’t see why she shouldn’t do it :woman_shrugging:

yep, one of the group leaders mentioned tht. So, I guess she should be fine.

It’s best to add trigger warnings for people who are sensitive over the topic or have been victims of it.

And hopefully she portrays it correctly.

I’m gonna bump this, I’d say it’s very much a pertinent subject

I don’t see why she shouldn’t be allowed to - if there is a trigger warning then I’d say it’s fine. Also maybe a note at the end of each chapters to say something like

“To anyone who has ever been subject to domestic abuse, please know that you have my condolences.”

Or just something, y’know?

I still suggest adding a trigger warning, and of course reminding your readers that this is a problem.

If you’re writing an actual book, give out some hotline info.
