Recycling characters

Do you ever recycle characters from your previous stories?

I do that with two of my characters and I don’t really see something bad about that as long as the characters fit to the story. I know some people do that because they can’t come up with new characters. I think that might not be the best idea, especially if you just copy them and but them in a completely different story. But what are your opinions on that?

I do it in rps sometimes
Mostly because I like the character or if I’m not inspired enough to make a new one

Dose using characters from an rp in a story count?if it does I see no problem with it. I slightly changed the MCs background but the rest is the same. It just fits better for the story I have in mind

I do when I really like certain characters but I’m no longer inspired to write the old story, or I’ve finished writing them. I’ll re-create those characters and put them in a different context.

I do this in RPs, because I’m too lazy to create an entire new character with a new personality and background, it’s just too much work,

Personally, I find recycling characters cool! It’s like a crossover, you know, how your stories are slightly connected, unless the stories are related don’t overuse it, but using them as a cameo or a supporting character would be awesome!

Yessss I agree! Recycle characters in terms of cross over that can add value to the current story will definitely be awesome. They don’t interfere but rather enhance the current story.

Readers from the crossover story will also relate strongly to these characters leading to a more closer bond to the current story.

I do tend to do that either because I like their characterization or motivations. Sometimes it’s fun!

In RPs sometimes I recycle their personalities, it’s easier to keep them consistent that way. :eyes:

Considering I’ve had the same world and story since I was 8, yes. Definitely :joy:

Though I’m not sure if that counts :eyes:

I don’t think it does. You’re not really recycling for a new story, 'cause it’s still the same story and world.

Yeah. In RPs if they don’t work out, for sure.

I can’t say that I have many stories or lots of characters but I do have one character that I’m kind of recycling. She doesn’t fit in most stories and is usually in the same setting but in different circumstances.

I can see both good and bad in recycling characters. You can learn to know them in depth almost as good as a close friend. If you have a well developed character it can give you time to focus on the story, and just practice writing. A disadvantage would be that you’re not practicing writing different characters and you don’t have to develop as many characters (which is good to do too!).

Recycling characters would only be weird to me if I’m really invested in a story and I see it somewhere else without any explanation why the character has another family, other friends, other life and lives in another world.
