Well… my respond might be an unpopular opinion, but I would say I am alright with school uniforms.

Uniforms is a must in my country, so maybe I lean more to this because of that.
But there is a reason for this IMO. This can prevent some form of bullying in schools. Ive seen this (and even had experienced this) when we have certain exception of days when we could wear anything other than school uniforms.
Bullying happens. And they start judging you from the way you dress, especially when you are rich or poor. On those exception days, there will always be some bullying cases reported.
School uniforms may be tedious, but this helps in this aspect, so I am alright with it.

This is sort of an unpopular opinion, but I actually like wearing school uniforms (only if they look good and not tacky). Here in my country, school uniforms are mandatory (except for universities). Here are some of the reasons why I like wearing them:

  1. Saves a lot of time from choosing an outfit - Since there are school uniforms, I no longer have to spend a lot of time choosing what to wear for school
  2. More efficient/economical - Having a school uniform saves you a lot of time from doing laundry, and it can also save you money from buying new clothes all the time. Here in my country, there are children who can’t even afford decent casual clothes, and having a school uniform is the cheaper option for them. Financially-wise, having a school uniform is the better option here in my country.
  3. Might help prevent peer pressure and bullying - When all students wear the same thing, they no longer have to worry about peer pressure when it comes to their clothing. There are certain cases where students are being bullied due to their clothing. Having a school uniform reduces potential bullying targets, since it’s not easy make of someone’s clothing when you both wear the same clothes.
  4. THEY’RE COMFORTABLE - I’m not sure how it is in other countries, but here in my place, our school uniforms are comfortable to wear, especially our PE/Gym class uniform.

Although I do wish our school wasn’t too strict with our appearance. I find it ridiculous that we’re not allowed to dye our hair and wear multiple ear piercings.

lol, we’re not allowed to do that at my school either, but the teachers are :clown_face:

Against. I never had to wear one tho, and I don’t think I’ll ever will. Even though I have been mocked about my style, I prefer it than having to wear clothes that don’t suit me and my personality. Having to wear the same clothes as everyone else, without being able to express myself. I understand if someone has a different opinion though.

Sadly, this is also the case in our school. I honestly don’t understand why students aren’t allowed to dye their hair, but the teachers are? Like, what’s the difference?

Okay, let me just say that school uniforms don’t reduce bullying and here’s why.

Bully’s bully. It’s what they do, it doesn’t matter if you are in your own clothing or if you are in uniform. My blazer was too big and I didn’t roll my skirt up like the other girls, the fact I fastened my blazer up made me a subject to ridicule too. It also doesn’t remove the whole “rich, poor” thing because the blazers we wore cost £80 now these are for children who are growing and yes, kids can tell if a blazer is in need of replacing. They can also tell if the blazer has been handed down from an older sibling if say for example that older sibling was a brother who had to wear the “boys” blazer which was visually different to the “girls” blazer. The skirts also cost significantly more because the school logo was stitched into it. Also during own clothes day that logic goes out the window entirely.

Now this may have just been how it was in my school but I have heard many people with similar experiences. Bully’s will find anything to pick you apart over, it doesn’t matter what you wear.

I feel like it dismisses the actual issue too, it’s like saying “that kid is being bullied because of their clothes, to solve this we should make everyone dress the same”, it doesn’t work like that. If they can’t make fun of what you wear, they’ll have a go at the way you wear it or the state it is in (if it’s faded/ripped).

I’m also not saying that bully’s only bully people in terms of clothes, but for the sake of this thread I’m only going to talk about that. I just think there should be a more effective way of reducing this kind of bullying.

Also there was the issue in my school of girls not being allowed to wear trousers. There was also alot of transphobic stuff going on with that too.

I like the idea of PE kits though, well I did until they made me wear a skort :joy:.

Now contrary to what you may think when reading this, I’m not fully against uniform, I just think it should at least be relaxed. Like let kids dye their hair, let people choose if they want trousers or a skirt.

I definitely agree with this! Painted nails and hair dye are fun and inoffensive. And you shouldn’t have to wear something just because of your biological gender.

Thankfully most schools now allow this. Your school sounded like a hellscape even compared to mine (and I was in high school before you :joy:) We had a ton of variation in our uniform with the way people would wear it, and since it wasn’t expensive pretty much all of the people in school looked pretty slick. There was also the choice of wearing a skirt or trousers for boys or girls and they were very lax on piercings, painted/false nails, dyed hair and make-up unless you were doing PE (which is fair). Also knew a girl who’d come in with all kinds of crazy braids and stuff since it was a cultural thing. The school even had uniform-coloured hijabs and other assorted headwraps :joy:

At my school you’d get in trouble if you rolled up your sleeves :joy:

I don’t like school uniform but I also don’t mind it really
It doesn’t actually make any difference within the school tho

I agree with a lot of your points. I was just saying that it “might” help reduce bullying incidents when it comes to clothing because it’s effective here in our school. I haven’t seen anyone in my school who got bullied based on their uniform and how they wear it, regardless of whether they’re wearing a “hand-me-down” uniform or not. Perhaps this case really depends on the environment of the school.

AND THIS. I 100% agree with this. As much as I’m more comfortable to wear a school uniform, I still want to express myself in some ways while still sticking with my uniform.

I do not agree with school uniforms because:

  1. The teachers in a school should be educating students well enough so that they know to not bully eachother based on clothes, instead of just making them all dress the same way

  2. Clothes are not the only way students can “flex” on eachother. For example they can have really expensive bags or accesories

  3. The kids who do have less money will need to buy a uniform instead of just wearing whatever clothes they already have

  4. Uniforms are simply annoying

I had uniforms in junior high. I wasn’t a huge fan because I wanted to express myself and dye my hair.

I’ve never had a school uniform. I’m not too much about individuality and I really don’t care about what I wear as long as I’m comfortable. So l, it would it would need less thinking on my part if u had school uniforms. But if they were uncomfortable I probably would change school because I don’t want to be uncomfortable all day long. I’m not totally against it or for it. But if there are school uniforms I think the school would have to pay for it and give some options.

I think not having school uniform has worked fine all my life though. I’ve never seen anyone bullied because of their clothes or so. Lots of people used hand me downs and stuff so it wasn’t like anyone pointed that out. I guess there was some hype about designer clothes in one school I want to, but I mean maybe half or a third didn’t. :woman_shrugging:t2:

Sooo… I’m not totally against or for it.

@anon68003072 & @SomeoneCallMyPastor2,
P  R  E  A  C  H  ! I so agree with this. You should never be required to look or act a certain way “to reduce bullying”. You should be able to go to school in a GARBAGE BAG without being picked on. Children need to be taught that different doesn’t equal worse or less than.

100% yes to this. :ok_hand:

I used to go to public school where there was no dress code~ and then I moved and I am now going to a private school with uniforms.

Personally, I like uniforms since I save a lot of time not having to worry about what I am going to wear (which means more sleep for my lazy *ss), and no one can really make fun of your outfit since we all wear the same thing lol
