Is a heterophobic a real thing?
Just really curious

I don’t really like the ***phobia terms overall, since phobia kinda means fear but okay.

I personally think yes. Seen it. I mean it’s on a far less scale then homophobia but yeah.

So LGBTQ people being prejudice against straight people? Well as this thread has shown it does exist. People immediately assume that they would write uneducated and terrible stories.

Picture the situation the other way round, “LGBTQ people shouldn’t write straight people” it’s gatekeeping.

They’d probably say it’s a “different case” because we’re not oppressed for being straight.

that’s actually what someone there said.

I was thinking that. :joy: These people are predictable.

Those comments are making the LGBT community appear toxic in my opinion, because they’re discriminating against straight people, which is in no way better than discriminating LGBT people. :eyes::sparkles:

I just think this whole thing is just :grimacing:
I understand where they’re coming from but at the same time some people are sounding a little :grimacing:

To me it feels like the people representing LGBTQ+ community think that they live in segregation from straight people, and the people who are cis has never met a person that is LGBTQ+ before and that all the thing cis people know about the community comes from stereotypical character in film and tv

I just… Want to set a example. If you do research it shouldn’t really matter who’s telling the story. There has been mexican authors portraying whites/black characters and do to research it was done nice and clean. It shouldn’t matter your race or sexuaitly as long as the characters are portayed correctly it’s fine.

Straight people might not be LGBTQ+ but they have the internet and friends to help guild them. So gatekeeping is not only stupid but also not necessary. It only seems like they are trying to lower the competition!

Anyone should be able to enter as long as they understand what they’re writing. Yes, cishet people should be and feel able to enter this competition. It’s a good opportunity for people to learn more about something they might not have researched previously, and shocker, there are plenty of cishet people who are already well-informed on the LGBTQ+ community. Everyone has the capability to write a good story, just as everyone has the capability to write a really f*cking bad story.

But no, I don’t think the contest itself should be called ‘queer’. You can’t even search the word ‘queer’ on the app, for one. I don’t mind the word being used, but others do. It has been used as a slur against the community for decades. It’s cool that it’s being reclaimed, but the word still has it’s connotations. It would do much better being called ‘LGBTQ+’ or ‘Pride’ or ‘SAGA’ (Sexuality and Gender Acceptance) or literally anything else.

I like this one. And in the summer, I think they’ll be publishing a Pride Shelf for Pride Month.
