Sometime after popular books release, there’s typically a special or deluxe edition that comes out, or certain stores will have store exclusive version.
Sometimes these versions will have bonus content, a special cover design, a matching box set if its a series, or a personal favorite of mine, sprayed edges. Or sometimes a book will come out that isn’t a special edition, but it has the sprayed edges which makes it feel more like a deluxe.
What does anyone else think about deluxe editions of books, or books with sprayed edges?
I don’t know if it’s special editions, but I love to watch the “influencer”-artists on instagram who take books and create new bindings for them. They’re beautiful.

While it might not technically be official special editions, they make them into their own special edition.
I’ve seen so many videos of people rebinding books and it’s always so fascinating to watch, and it looks so pretty. And I’ve seen a lot of videos of people binding a personal physical copy of fanfictions too and it’s always cool to watch
Idk if anyone else follows that one librarian on TikTok who does the book return game but someone sent her a box set of the The Summer I Turned Pretty and the edges of the books are sprayed to look like water it’s so pretty
Most special editions seem to be hardback, so I haven’t ever had the urge to get one. Not to mention that I don’t tend to read new releases, so I haven’t actually seen special editions for my favourite books I’ve got the illustrated earthsea omnibus, though. Behemoth of a book.
So for my birthday, I went book shopping, and among the books I got, there were 3 with sprayed edges, but one of the really cool finds I got (on sale too) was a deluxe edition of The Princess Bride with some really cool sprayed edges
I just love, love, love sprayed edges and any books that look pretty in general to begin with though
