“Oh I missed you so much sexy, my heart was beating so fast because it missed you so so so much,” Chloe responded with a wink.
Adrian’s eyes widened slightly, before he let out a forced laugh. That was the second time she’d surprised him. “Oh, I’m honored, gorgeous,” he winked back. But something about her response made him uneasy. Likely the fact that she was his friend’s ex, even if they were no longer dating. He wondered how Lorenzo would feel about it. “Bet you say that to all the guys,” he laughed. Yet there was hidden bitterness in his response that he couldn’t let her know about.
"Also look at you being a knight and shining star helping someone in need,” she added.
"…Oh and nice that the girl was hot. If you see her again give her my number yeah?” Lorenzo spoke as well.
“It was no big deal.” Good, they bought the lie. “I’ll give your number to her, dude. If I see her,” he added.
As Lorenzo went to grab the group drinks, Adrian received a notification. He turned to Chloe, saying “One sec,” before checking his texts. It was a reply from Hope. A three paragraph rant to be specific, one he’d dread to read later. But more importantly, at the bottom of the message was a confirmation that she’d join him at the party. He smiled, before putting his phone back in his pocket. “Sorry, I was waiting for a text.”
Lorenzo returned with the drinks and Adrian took one of the beers. He knew it was a bad idea to be drinking with his emotional state, but he didn’t want to stand out from the rest. He stared at the bottle for a second, hesitant, before returning his attention back to the group. “Thanks, man,” he raised the bottle. “By the way, Hope’s coming too. I just got a text from her.”
And just when he was about to take a sip, he felt something hold his arm down. He furrowed his brows, turning to the side. “Speak of the devil,” he laughed. It was Hope.

After the conversation with Evelyn
Hope’s conversation with Evelyn had been cut short by an unexpected event. Though she’d been planning on spending more time getting to know her, they unfortunately had to part ways. She had to admit, it was a bit frustrating. She began to feel like she got the upper hand, making the poor girl open up about her life. But there was something else she hadn’t expected. Seeing the way her family had reacted to Eve’s troubles and getting to know her true feelings on the matter, Hope began to feel something change. It was a feeling she couldn’t quite pinpoint, due to her inexperience. It was almost like she could understand Eve. She was meant to be an easy target Hope couldn’t feel bad for, because nobody really liked Evelyn. Yet at the back of her mind, a feeling of disgust at her own actions lingered. She shook her head, brushing it off. Regardless, her father was right. She couldn’t let emotions distract her from her goal. They were meaningless and had no explanation, a disadvantage in any plan. In the end, a high status was more fulfilling than a friend. And Hope had promised to live by that. Her parents might have failed to become wealthy and influential, but Hope had the ability to change that. After all, she owed them.
Without a plan for the day and not many friends to spend time with, Hope was lost. She wasn’t the type to waste time sitting idly, but it was too early in the year to begin studying. They hadn’t even gotten their class materials. But there was something else she could improve on. Her biggest passion, swimming. Not to mention, the reminder of Kendrie’s existence earlier motivated her even more.
She changed into her swimsuit and headed to the pool, the place she stayed at more than her own dorm room. Moving with the waves, surrounded by bright blue water, the cool feeling on her skin. It was more than relaxing. She closed her eyes, letting herself get lost.
“Our parents won’t be so happy to hear you’ve been drinking. Neither will I be,” she said, trying to take the bottle out of his hand. But to her surprise, it was relatively easy.
She furrowed her brows in confusion as she noticed his outfit. Adrian seemed to be wearing sunglasses. Indoors. During the night. It was expected, but Hope knew Adrian better than anyone. Though to most it would’ve looked like an attempt to attract attention, she could only pray he wasn’t trying to hide the fact that he’d been crying again. After all, they were apart the whole day, and the whole holiday as well. She had no way of knowing what was going through his head.
Hope sighed and turned her attention to the two strangers. She could already feel her heartrate go through the roof at the thought of making conversation. She was hoping she could avoid it, until she spotted a familiar face. It was her friend, Lorenzo.
She gave him a smile, waving. “I haven’t seen you in so long! How are you?” Hope was glad to have ran into him at the party. She could even feel her heart slowly calming down, the familiar faces helping her gain a bit more confidence in herself.
There was another girl standing by his side. Hope put her bag on her shoulder, extending her hand. “I’m Hope,” she smiled.
