In your opinion, what are the best and worst types of teachers?

For me…

Best

  • Passionate about the subject they are teaching.
  • Kind
  • Empathetic
  • Knows how to make class interesting
  • Explains the topic well
  • Includes diverse activities so that class isn’t mundane
  • Gets students to think, make connections, and analyze

Worst

  • Is only there for the paycheck
  • Doesn’t care about their students
  • Only cares about trivial things, such as whether or not students have painted nails or wearing a jacket that isn’t the school uniform jacket
  • Yells at students for everything and embarrasses them in front of their peers
  • Doesn’t connect with the group
  • Lazy
  • Not punctual and irresponsible
  • Learning is mundane and boring because they only make students work in the textbook, workbook, or worksheet packets every single day

  • Respectful to neurodivergent students
  • Understanding/empathetic
  • Does something about bullying
  • Makes sure the lesson is both easy and informative
  • Interactive

Worst

  • Embarrasses a student just because they didn’t do an assignment
  • Degrades students for not knowing something they won’t even need as adults
  • Unrecognising of autism in students and other disorders that make it hard to socialise
  • Marks down an assignment because it wasn’t in bLuE oR bLaCk iNk
  • Forces a student to take off their jacket just because it’s not part of the school uniform
  • Walks around and looks at non-homework papers that have personal info on them

Thanks!! I do try to be that kind of teacher, because kids and teens need someone positive in their life. I wasn’t always great in the past… I’d get impatient, cry, and complain if kids didn’t listen. But I hated that version of myself and promised myself I’d work on those flaws.

For me, the best kind of teachers are those who like their job and show that they at least care about their students and which effect they have on their students.
The worst kind of teacher are those who only care about the grades, holidays and money :woman_shrugging:

The worst kind of teachers complain about everything, hate working, are always talking trash about their co-workers behind their backs, are already anticipating the next holiday right after we just got back from break, hate the kids, and only make kids take useless notes instead of teach relevant content.
