Making a whole new history (this works best with fantasy)
Making up religions, rules, costumes, traditions, even language and writing if Iβm feeling creative.
Yeah, I recently started picking names that fit my character in one way or the other.
Some are ironical (for instance Lav, which means lion, for a sheepish character)
Some fit perfectly (Aoife is a name that means beauty, and my character Aoife has a beauty spot inherited form her father Diarmuid from the story of Diarmuid and Grainne that makes him irresistible to others)
Some will fit as character developement happens (for instance the name Serena for a girl who will only later in life reach Serenity and tranguility)
Some that donβt have a meaning but sound cool (Marc Cous because it sounds like Marcus and could easily be mistaken for one name when in fact itβs a full name)
Some that sound like places (for instance my characters Leslie Soto - Lesoto, and Johannes Burg like JohannesBurg)

My favourite part is definitely choosing the names, I love scouring name websites. Idk to me it feels like names are so important, like this is the word that will define them as a person so it has to be a good one, one that fits them but isnβt too fitting because then too psychic for parents
For me, its the backstory. Of course, there are times where I struggle and canβt seem to figure out what to write for the bio, overall its still my favorite part. Writing about why they are the way they are, and making certain itβs different from my other characters is just the best.
