A 6-Year-Old Girl Was Arrested After Throwing A Tantrum
Officer Dennis Turner was on duty as a school resource officer when he arrested the students on misdemeanor charges, Lt. Wanda Miglio of the Orlando Police Department. Turner did not follow the departmentās policy of requiring approval from a watch commander for the arrest of any children under the age of 12.
"There will be an internal investigation regarding these incidents,ā Miglio said.
The officer is part of the departmentās reserve program and will be suspended from duty pending the outcome of the investigation.
The investigation comes after 6-year-old Kaia Rolleās grandmother said the girl was handcuffed and taken away in a police car, drawing outrage and national headlines. Meralyn Kirkland, Kaiaās grandmother, told NBC affiliate WLFA that she was called Thursday and told her granddaughter had been arrested after throwing a tantrum at Lucious and Emma Nixon Academy, the Orlando charter school she attends as a first-grader. Kirkland said she was told her granddaughter had been arrested on a battery charge. Kirkland said her granddaughter was then handcuffed, fingerprinted, and even had mugshots taken, according to WFLA.
*In other words, the girl has something like a sleeping disorder which caused her not to be good in class as a result she was sent to the office, since the girl was in a bad state she kicked the principal and the police officer arrests her. He eventually finds out about the girlās disorder but it doesnāt end there. He still kept her at the police station saying he has āsleeping disorderā but he doesnāt act like that. Since it wasnāt the first time he did something like this, he got fired.
The climate strike 2019 led by Greta Thunberg
Young people from around the world are leading a massive coordinated strike from school on Friday, September 20, to protest government and business inaction on climate change. It is likely to be one of the largest environmental protests in history.
āIf you canāt be in the strike, then, of course, you donāt have to,ā 16-year-old Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, the original school striker who last year began demanding more action from her government on climate change with weekly protests, told Teen Vogue. āBut I think if there is one day you should join, this is the day.ā Thunberg has become an increasingly influential figurehead and voice for youth climate angst and activism. Since she no longer flies because of the aviation industryās high carbon emissions, she was offered the opportunity to travel to the US on a zero-emissions sailboat.
Itās a big moment for Thunberg and the legions of youth and adult activists and leaders sheās inspired since August 2018, when she began skipping school on Fridays to protest outside the Swedish Parliament. Thousands of young people in the movement, called Fridays for Future, now strike every Friday to demand more aggressive action from their governments and the international community. The last large-scale coordinated climate strike on May 24 drew participants from 130 countries.
The New York strike is expected to attract thousands of people, and parallel strikes in DC, Boston, Seattle, Minneapolis, Miami, Los Angeles, and Denver may, too.
But this is truly a global strike and it will be the movementās largest yet, with 2,500 events scheduled in over 150 countries. (The Global Climate Strike website has a searchable map showing all the events.) Activists will also use the strike to pressure governments on local issues; in Cote dāIvoire and Bangladesh theyāll be pushing back against proposed coal plants.
