The Selection - Official RP Thread

Once things calmed down a bit, Melody decided to take a break from her work. She was curious to see if the palace had a library, though she didn’t have much luck finding one yet. Without books to keep her mind occupied, she got a bit lost in thought.

Walking in the palace amongst the nobles was something Melody could only dream of. Her imagination was vivid, yet her vision couldn’t possibly compare to the grand, magestic palace that she was standing in. When she received news that she’d be working as a maid for the royal family, Melody couldn’t believe her ears. It almost felt magical. Even if she wasn’t one of the selected, she still felt like her life got a bigger purpose. Especially since she would be serving the queen directly – someone she’d admired since she was a little girl.

Yet, she couldn’t feel happy. No matter how much she wandered in her imagination, head in the clouds about living in the palace, now that she was actually there, she felt empty. It was most likely the sudden departure from her family, but most importantly, Robyn. As days passed, she got accustomed to the feeling. This was her new life, and it was the only way for her family to survive. She couldn’t complain, especially since being a maid was a huge honor. Eventually, the selected arrived. The past day had been the busiest that Melody has ever been, she barely had time to get acquainted with anyone. The selected girl she was assigned to, Kaia, seemed lost as well. But Melody couldn’t gather the courage to start a conversation with her.

So there she was, in the halls, wandering lost in thought as always. She was looking for a library, but used the walk there to organize her thoughts. She was completely immersed, paying no attention to her surroundings.

Until, she suddenly bumped into another maid in the hallway.

“Ah! I’m so sorry!” she said, panicked. “Are you okay?”

It was just another day in the palace, where Darius was supposed to be working. But he already had enough, working endlessly day and night. For… A literal month. That’s how long he’d been there. And his work included making sure nothing dangerous happened and that no harm came to the family, yet it was always so uneventful. The palace was generally safe, aside from minor inconveniences. It wasn’t that he didn’t prefer the peace, he would actually hate to deal with trouble, but he’s been desperate for something interesting to happen. His younger sisters were busy with their maid duties during the morning, so he couldn’t spend a lot of time talking to them.

It was then when he got an idea. After spotting one of the selected girls in the hall, he decided to try and start a conversation with her. If all went well, and if she was rich by any chance, he could marry and leave the palace forever. And if he got caught and fired… Well, he didn’t care enough about his job to worry. Anything was better than standing around and staring at a wall.

“Excuse me, ma’am.” he approached her, unsure of how to start. “Do you have a moment? There’s been an incident and I need to question you outside.” he blurted out, immediately regretting his choices. “…It’s nothing too serious, I’ve asked everyone I came across.”

He has not. In fact, there hasn’t been any incident. He just needed an excuse to stop a selected girl and have a conversation with her. The rest of the guards were too focused on their duties, and unlike him they didn’t seem to mind being guards. He wouldn’t have anything in common with them. The maids on the other hand, were too busy to stop and chat. This was his last option.

Melody Helfes :black_heart: Palace Halls

Midnight’s lips parted in a frown, as she dropped a roll of fabric and her sketch book. “Ah! I’m so sorry!” the other maid said. “Are you okay?” Midnight looked up from the garment she had been inspecting to see who had been in lala land this time. When she saw that it was just another maid, she rolled her eyes, but didn’t say anything. She was used to the clumsy, oblivious, heedless, and careless nature of the staff, and it didn’t bother her too much anymore. Or, rather she was working on not being bothered by the flaws she picked out of everyone. “I’m fine,” Midnight said with a sigh. “Just be careful next time.”

Daintily picking everything back up, she slammed her sketch book shut, practically sliding away from the other maid. She went back to examining the garment as she went on, not wanting to waste any more time on small talk with the girl. Midnight was more interested in perfecting her craft than engaging in meaningless conversation.

Part of your world- The little mermaid

She was patient and eager—extremely eager for it to be her turn to talk to the prince. As she watched the prince approach each lady, take their hand, and be quite the charmer and gentleman, Lum couldn’t surpass the giggles and butterflies that resided in her stomach.

He was so handsome and tall, and handsome and broad. She wondered about all his likes and all of his dislikes, and she wanted to know what the prince was talking about with the other ladies and she wanted to know what the rest of the ladies thought of the prince. As you could see,Lum was a wanderer- she had many wonders and questions and they all came down to the prince. Why? Isn’t it obvious, Lum wanted to be a part of the prince’s world and she was in love with him. But was it truly love? Lum pondered this, acknowledging that her feelings were based on his appearance and her fantastical notions of his personality. Still, she believed that love didn’t always need a logical reason. If people could hate someone they didn’t know, why couldn’t she feel drawn to the prince without a concrete explanation? Love, in its mysterious ways, defies rationality. Besides, the world was filled with too much misery to start questioning love.

Anyways, Lum had to use the bathroom and had to use the bathroom fast so she excused herself, hastily making her way to the restroom. Upon returning to the dining area, she was approached by a light-skinned man with curly hair.

“Do you have a moment? There’s been an incident and I need to question you outside.”

Lum scrunched her nose- incident? What incident? Did she do anything.

Then the man continued with, '“…It’s nothing too serious, I’ve asked everyone I came across.”

Lum scrunched her nose again, puzzled by the mention of an incident. She wondered if she had done something wrong without realizing it. Tentatively, she replied, “Sure, I have a moment. Let’s go outside.”

As they stepped outside, Lum’s hands playing with her dress as she stared into the man’s eyes- he was quite handsome, she would admit, but to her no one was as handsome as her prince, “So, what’s the incident? Are we in trouble?” We as in the people in the castle. She noticed how tired the man looked as well, so she added, “Are you ok?”

Zain gazed at Edith with curiosity; she was actually different from what he had expected, and like he said before, he did not expect much or anything. But Edith was quite amusing and intriguing to him; she seems to think she knows it all, but in reality she knows nothing. But then again, does Zain know everything? No, he does not; he is not a god or a book, but he was different from Edith in a way; he didn’t pretend to be all-knowing and mysterious, and he was more experienced. He wondered what age she was—17? 18? 19? How young were the contestants anyway? The prince was 18 so definitely no lower than 16 and no higher than 20, a similar age range to him. He was 20, going to 21, so he was not that older than what he presumed Edith to be. They were basically similar at age if you would.

Zain also noticed something else about Edith: she seemed to feel targeted by him. He did not think that she noticed it, but her language was awfully defensive, how cute. It would not be a lie to say that Zain was trying to get something out of her, but he did not know what exactly it was he wanted either. Maybe just a way to learn about how in subtle ways, it was not everyday the palace was filled with outsiders he used to ‘know’ but never really got the chance to know.

A playful smile tugged at the corners of Zain’s lips as he leaned in slightly, “Of course, freedom is a luxury not everyone can afford; people like you and me are born into a privileged world that few can attest to.” he replied, his eyes twinkling with a combination of amusement and fascination. “But tell me, Lady, what does freedom truly mean to you? Is it merely the abundance of choices, or is it something more? Something that drives you to seek new opportunities and embrace change? Or do you simply live the life of a chameleon, always playing the role everyone wants you to play and calling that freedom and a goal to be proud of” He trailed off, Zain’s tone was intrigued as he spoke, as if he was genuinely wondering about the depths of her perception. He was attracted by Edith’s point of view and the underlying impulses that drove her ahead. There was a latent urge within him to discover the genuine essence of her spirit, to comprehend what drove her never-ending quest for progress. He was not trying to stop her from pursing her dreams of queenhood or whatever, after all he is loyal to the prince and anything that would help the crown is what he is loyal too and maybe Edith could be the queen they needed so why would he try and drive her out? He was simply curious, curious about her and how other actors felt. He regretted not being able to say goodbye to a lot of his coworkers or ask them this questions he is asking Edith, because he felt like most of them were living in a golden cage. They were living in a golden cage and they could not understand that a golden cage was still a cage, no matter how pretty, how luxurious and fancy it was. Actors who play it safe like Edith mostly do live in cages adorned in riches, but actors who broke boundaries? Who broke the walls? Those people were truly free and Zain was a little sad he was not one of them, he disappeared because he was not ready to face a career damage.

His eyes locked with hers, a longing sigh that could only be heard in his head following, “I’ve always believed that true freedom lies not in the number of options we have, but in our ability to transcend our circumstances and grow as individuals,” he reflected, his voice hushed. “So, Edith, how do you grow regardless of your circumstances?” “What motivates you to embrace change and explore new horizons? Are you truly free or just existing in a golden cage,” Zain hoped she became queen, maybe then she would find true freedom. He doubted it but at least if she wanted to remain in a cage of gold, the royal palace could give her the finest gold.

Additionally, he wanted to see how Edith would play out as a queen and how she would work with the Prince. From what he knows about the Prince (being his guard and everything) and Edith, their personalities would crash and that would be exciting to watch play out.

Though the woman said she was fine, Melody couldn’t help but feel guilty. It wasn’t the first time she collided with someone while her head was in the clouds. You’d think she would learn to pay attention after so long.

She noticed the maid frown, as she dropped something. The book she was holding caught Melody’s attention. She didn’t want to bother her any longer, but she hadn’t seen a book around the palace yet. Maybe she knew about a library, or something similar. Although the woman slid away from Melody and went back to her work, she still decided to approach her again. This time properly. If she were annoyed, then Melody would just cut the conversation short.

“Again, I’m sorry.” she spoke softly. “I think we got off on the wrong foot. I’m Melody.” She extended her arm for a handshake. Introduction first, then she’d get to asking her about the book. Melody didn’t want the woman to hate her when they just met.

During the walk outside, Darius was silent, busy thinking of what to say to get her attention. If she caught on that he was lying to her, it would be disastrous. He couldn’t possibly play it off as a joke either, she would most likely hate him after it. As he stepped closer to the exit, he started panicking. Quickly, he decided it would be better to think of the consequences later. He would have to think of an “incident” first.

“Don’t worry, it’s nothing dangerous. One of the guards came to me and told me about a missing necklace.” he explained. That way, he could shift the blame to another person and save himself. “I need you to tell me your name and whether you’ve come across a necklace recently.” So far, he thought it was going well. Obviously, the answer would be no, and he would be able to leave soon.

Until, the girl asked him a question. “I…” he paused in confusion. He didn’t expect to be asked that. “To be completely honest with you, I’m not. Work has been pretty stressful lately…” It has not. “…And now I need to find the lady’s necklace.” he continued. At this point, he was digging his own grave. Yet, he couldn’t help but wonder how much he could lie before getting caught. His boredom really got the best of him.

Missing necklace? Lum thought with a gasp, she had not seen any missing necklaces and she couldn’t believe someone would steal from the royal family- assuming of course the missing necklace belong to the royal family. “No,” Lum began looking worried, “I have not seen any missing necklaces, and do you need help? I’m always happy to help you know!” She said eager to help. Sure, Lum at first was worried she might miss out on being the next candidate to talk to the prince, but now her big heart had to play a role. See, Lum has always loved helping people- she was a natural helper, she loved seeing people happy and if the necklace did belong to the royal amily and she helped find it then it would make the prince notice her which would also be another big win. “Who does the necklace belong too if I may ask?”

Lum’s face fell when the boy said he was not ok and that work has been pretty stressful, “Oh my, you most be working really hard,” She said," I’m really sorry to hear that," Lum replied sympathetically, her expression turning concerned. “Work can be tough sometimes, but you should take care of yourself. Is there anything I can do to help? Maybe talking about it would ease your stress? And don’t worry, we’ll find the missing necklace together. If it belongs to the royal family, it must be very important, and we can’t let anyone get away with stealing it.”

As Lum spoke, she instinctively started scanning the surroundings, looking for any clues that might lead them to the missing necklace. She was determined to be of assistance, to the distressed boy who could be her potential new friend. “How does the necklace look like?” Lum asked.
