So what’s the worst writing advice anyone’s ever given you? Like just that advice that didn’t help you in the absolute slightest?
For me, it was when an assistant in my English class in High School told me that it’s always better to do your first draft writing in the way you speak. Trust me, that is not a good way to write any draft, not even your first! Gosh, it took me so long to grow out of that, my lord

The worst writing advice I ever got was, probably quite bad but I hear it very often. I need to get over it, and I’m really trying. It’s got a lot better.

Shut up, leave Cali alone. This is harassment and slander

The worst writing advice I’ve ever gotten came from someone who doesn’t even write and knows nothing about writing. My ex’s mom—my would-be mother-in-law. (Thank God she’s not).
Anyway, she told me that I couldn’t write good stories because I’ve never “lived”. I was 23 at the time.
‘What can some girl who lives with her mom and has no life experience possibly write about?’ was what she said to me.
That hurt so bad.

Kinda kept being told to make back up options incase writing didn’t work.
Ik this isn’t exactly advice but it made me feel like cr*p.
Like what I was working on wasn’t good enough.
Haven’t written in a while tbh.
Also got told my hand writing was bad despite it being legible so wtf?!?
And had people say stuff along the lines of, needs more of something?
Like more of wat??

That writers block doesnt exist and it’s just an excuse not to write like??? Nah I just want to miss the deadline for every contest,
Also technically not just writing but people that say superhero stories are just for kids and that adults that like them need to ‘grow up’ are the bane of my existence and I hate them with a fiery passion

“Use lots of adverbs, make sure to describe every little detail.”

I’m gonna be that guy and say I don’t recall ever being given any bad writing advice, my teacher used to take the time to see how I worked so she adapted her advice to suit me. It helped I got a 7 (an A) on the GCSE and it made me enjoy English.
Now what I will say is that people have tried correcting my grammar and I’ve ended up correcting theirs, this goes back as far as primary.
