Yeah. I kinda have to make the deadline a bit early so the judges have time to really review the entries
Submitted!
Um, so it’s kinda bad. I honestly just didn’t feel like writing (except for the first part, I liked writing that one!). I’ve been having this writing block for like a month, it sucks lol. So I kinda just pushed myself through this one. I’m proud I did it, though!
Also, it contains views that are NOT mine at all, from the perspective of someone who is homophobic so keep that in mind before you read lol.
Thanks for submitting! I’m really glad you were able to finish and submit! I hope you’ll be able to get through your writer’s block tho.
Oh and just a heads up I won’t be here when the results are announced cuz I’m going on vacation where I likely won’t have wifi.
The forms are officially closed now. Mel and I want to thank all three people out of the twenty two who liked the OP and entered. We really appreciate all entries and I’ve loved them all.
All the entries we received are going to be posted below.

“My king please me is my ghràdhaich.” a knight called out to her father. She knelt before his throne hoping he would change his mind. “Ray, The Shadow Sentinel. Will not mate outside of our kind!” the king proudly declared to his court. Much to the surprise of his daughter and her ghràdhaich, Ragnis. King Necos Ragnis’s father yelled at his close ally “King Alexander, you must let our He can’t wait any longer!” he stood tall and proud to defy the werewolf king. Even more so in the throne room filled with various noblemen and castle guards. King Necos had been the king of the faes for a near on millennia. He was not about to watch his only son and heir lose his she-wolf mate, to some stupid werewolf prejudice. It was rare for the 2 races to mate outside their own. Werewolves are known to have a sorceress mate once every 150 years or so. Since the first royal alpha took a sorcerer mate, fae and wolves cross paths every once and a while not always for the best of both species. “Nonsense! The Shadow Sentinel will mate with one of our own through the Moonflower ritual just like her brothers like all royal families do!” the wolf king declared.
King Necos was becoming desperate for his son. The young ones had met by chance on the mainland. They felt the first signs of their mating pull. Ut hurt the pair to be away from each other for too long. It took awhile for the pair to reveal their true natures to each other. Despite Ragni’s being 400 years old he had this otherworldly, maybe magical about him, he looked like he was a 20 year old. ”She wouldn’t want another ‘’ the fae king and prince said calmly to the wolf court, both confident in their words. The fae king’s voice had a slight warning in his tone. The fae king continued his warning and seriousness was noticeable for all to hear ”I have to see what can happen and seen it written in the stars above. They say -”
The wolf king interrupted ”THEY TELL YOU NOTHING! A pittance at most.” the wolf king waved his court away dismissing them. ”You are an ally on my island home. Necos don’t test my hostility by forcing this ridiculousness of a pairing. Ray will pick a mate and forget all about your son. She won-”
”She will not want another ‘’ Necos stood firm ''forbid this union and you will come to deeply regret it. You will lose your daughter in a very decisive way.” Alexander had enough of the subject. The guards moved closer to the fae king and prince, Ray got off her knees and moved closer to her ghràdhaich and his father, she had her hand on the hilt of her sword. She was ready for the guards if they dared to threaten her ghràdhaich. Necos had heard that the wolf royal family had gotten the most powerful sorceress Madalena to cast a spell to stop fae magic from working inside the castle. Alexander seemed so sure the spell would work. He even had a cocky smile on his face. Necos’s stern demeanour broke, the guards could read the fae’s emotions for the first time. Necos bowed before Alexander and begged ”Alex don’t do this I beg you. Don’t do this to my son. He will be king since he has completed his mating with your daughter. She will be his queen. Many generations will come from them. Ray won’t be happy without him.”
”Leave Necos, before I make you leave.” his tone left no room for argument, the fae king stood tall once again and snapped his fingers once. There was a small flash of green light. The crown jewels - the ones the fae gave to the king when he wed his wife queen Selena, appeared in the fae king’s hand out of thin air. Alexander shot to his feet as if he wanted to go towards Necos but froze. ” I pity your close-minded ways, Alex. You have the opportunity to mend the thready between our kinds, yet you mock the bond my people hold so dearly. Your moonflower ceremony is a sham and makes a mockery of the true mate bond. You use it to take the cull the weak and force a bond between two that was never meant to be. You write charters and articles as you please, but it will never compare to true mate bond. You owe it to your family” Necos turned to his son, Ragnis ” We need to take back our gift for the poor king’s nuptials. You have betrayed us by denying my kin what was meant to be his. So we will take back out goodwill toward you in turn. Goodbye.” King Necos was the first to disappear. Ragnis whispered in Ray’s ear ”Goodbye, my love” he wanted to say more but he knew the king’s wolf hearing would hear what he wanted to say to his beloved mate. He planned to meet her on her balcony later that night.
Ragnis disappeared not before queen Selene managed to get a look at his face from her hiding spot by on the back wall behind the throne. Ray collapsed on the floor as if all her fight and spirit had left. Some of the guards took her out of the room. ”The prince looked so sad. My heart weeps for him.” the queen’s voice and face were filled with pain. The king placed his hand on his female’s arm trying to soothe her. Selene had always been soft-hearted compared to the king especially when it comes to relationships. The queen even held lavish parties for the common folk on the mainland once a year for all the mated couples that bonded that year. The town regarded it as a sort of wedding reception. Everyone drank and danced the merry night away. Selene was the most popular of the royal family after the Shadow Sentinel. The king was head over heels for her since he met her at his coming of age ball.
”My love, all will be fine.” he cooed softly to his queen. ”He will be fine. Ray will choose her mate at the ball in a few days. She will forget all about the boy and instead choose one of our kind.” The king kissed Selene’s lips gently. Her heart did a little flip, it was not the good kind that warms your chest. It was the kind that would tell you tragedy is on the way. She tried to quell the foreboding feeling. She couldn’t tell where it was coming from.
But by sunrise the following morning her whole world would be turned upside down.
” The love you need to wake up for me.” The fae prince begged his sleeping love. The room was enchanting inside. Several walls support the upper floor and the torches attached to them. The walls are full of paintings, all in a different style, but all of the surrounding area. Maybe to give Ray a sense of freedom since she was rarely allowed to go out of the castle unless on a mission for the king. Ray stirred from her sleep. “Ragnis?” She said her voice came out hoarse.
“Yes, my love” Ragnis cooed.
“Did father reject our bond?” their tears started to form in her eyes. Ragnis couldn’t look her in the eyes when he answered “Yes”
“He has to! We are meant to be together.” She shouted the tears now streaming down her face. “He can’t keep us from bonding. It’s unreasonable and so, so wrong.” Ragnis understood her plight. Though she had felt the pull of the true mate bond, she would take another to wed and mate with. The bond and pull would pale to that of what the moonflower ceremony could ever make. Ragnis knew wolves lived longer than humans, for fae they were immortal in comparison. He would one day have to face a world without her in it if she didn’t mate with him. Ragnis wanted to sob at that thought, he knew in time fate would grant him another female. If that went awry another and so on. It would take a hundred years or so but it would happen. Until then he would mourn his Ray, the woman who was meant to be his but was denied due to stupid prejudice her father held again his kind.
He kissed her gently on her cheek. His mouth became wet with her tears. He couldn’t bear to linger any longer. To be near her and never be apart of her would hurt more the longer he stayed. The sorcerer’s spell wouldn’t allow him to do as he wanted and whisk her away. He turned away from his love, closing his eyes as her sobs became audible to him. He didn’t want his last sight of her to be one of her crying. He wanted it to be of her laughing and having fun with him. Like when they had met all those months ago.
As he reappeared by his father’s side on the mainland, he saw the sombre looks of his sister’s faces. All but one was mated now, he was sure she would find her mate soon enough. She had come of age recently. It unusually took fae royalty no more than a few years of maturation to find their mate or as Ray call him her ghràdhaich. He wished his last sister had better luck than he did.
Ray paced the floor of her room. She was trying to come up with a plan to convince her father. Ragnis left just a few hours ago, the pain in her chest was increasing. Ray thought it meant Ragnis was getting further away. This was the first time a Royal wolf had found there mate in a long time. She had no one to ask if her heart was breaking or if she was just feeling the after-effects of crying for hours on end. Her tear never truly stopped. She has stopped trying to wipe them away.
She ached it felt like an injury blooming from her heart. The small angry muscle felt like thousands of tiny needles stabbed her heart. She would cry her self try then a half-hour later the pain and tear would come back.
Ray had to speak with her father only he could fix this. She made her way to her parent’s bedroom on the west wing of the castle. She was determined to get him to let her wed and mate with her ghràdhaich. She would make him regret denying her.
Knocking on the glossy dark oak door. Ray wasn’t the least bit surprised that her mother let her in with a big smile on her face. “My precious Ray why don’t you come in You father-”
“I am here, my leannan. Just washing up” He was bent over a washbasin scrubbing his beard with his fingers. Ray stepped towards her father boldly. “Why won’t you let me be with Ragnis? He is a good and caring man who”
“is a fairie” The king cut in” we mate like for like. You will wed a shifter like us. Even if it is the last thing I see before I die.”
Ray pointed at his chest with a finger that had recently been used to wipe her tears away. “I will die before that ever happens. I can already feel my heart breaking the further away he moves from me. It’s like an angry fist is squeezing it, tiny little pins poking it like a pincushion. It-”
“It will go away like all other bonds as far as the moonflower ceremony is concerned. This is how things have been done for generations my little wolf. It is what is to be done and will be done. He stopped. “In a few days, it will be done at your 19th birthday ball. Now run along leannan. And get some rest. You have your final dress fitting tomorrow and I will have no more of your backtalk. Ray’s cheeks flamed red as an angry slash cut across her pale skin in ire. She turned on her heels muttering to herself “We will see who regrets the most father. You all will see!” She stomped out the door her nightdress swishing behind her. “What did she mean by that my heart?” the queen asked her love, while he was patting his head cry with a clean cloth. “Nothing my pet. She just needs some rest. And a fresh face for tomorrow.” Selene smiled but her heart wasn’t in it.
That night she laid awake for what seemed like an eternity until she heard a frightful scream. Making her jolt upright in her bed. “Dear one,” the king mumbled “What’s that? How late is it?” Selene hadn’t a clue as to what happened. She shot out of the room to look for the source of the disturbance. She didn’t have to wait too long. She found one of the maids from the east wing dressed in a nightgown as soon as she opened the bedroom door. ”Your highness, I need you to come with me. Ray is laying on the flagstones near the luna garden. They say she is close to death.”
Selene’s heart leapt into a gallop at the maid words. She left behind her king to hurry to the grounds in nothing but her nightgown. She scurried down the steps to the main floor, shuffling through the wide doors that led into the garden. A few shifters gathered around a crumpled body, the light from a swinging lantern shining over the golden blond hair of her daughter. Only her hair was no longer blond but crimson in colour. Ray’s black crescent moon birthmark was no longer visible on the base of her neck.
Blood
Selene screamed as the guards moved her away, knees cracking on the stones as her hands cupped her beloved daughter’s face. Tears spilt down the queen’s cheeks. Ray’s eyes fluttered open, looking unseeing on her mother. She was simply going off her gentle touch. “Màthair?” the girl whispered, smiling so softly up to her. “I- It’s so bright here. Tell him… Tell Ragnis I love him … always will. Blood gurgled up and over the side of her mouth. “Tell him… I am free.” Ray’s eyes clouded over as her last raspy breath escaped, her chest stopped for good as her mother wept over the dead body. Not caring about the state of her clothes or the shifters surrounding her. Selene pulled her head on to her lap as she rocked back and forth until the tears stopped coming.
Soon, a man came over, he was the pack’s doctor. He murmured that he would take good care of the body and prepare it for burial. One of the guards took the distraught queens hands pulling her upright gently, stepped away bowing slightly before the king. The king’s mouth was wide open. Necos had foretold he would lose his daughter.
The damned fae was right. He was wrong. The king looked over to his queen’s cold countenance. Her gaze made him take a step back. In all the time they had been wed, she had not looked at him like that before. Expect the few days she berated him giving birth to their pups. Their 3 sons and Ray. Ray was the only one bearing the moons mark.
”I will never forgive you for this. Not ever Alex.” She stalked past him, whipping her out her hand to push his away when he tried to grab her. He was aggressive and he couldn’t let it show. Or let anyone know how he regretted his interaction with the fae. From that day forward they would forever be enemies. ”Prepare my daughter for burial” He demanded the physician before dismissing the others. ”Instead of a ball, we will be having a wake” He declared as the crowd dispersed. The king turned to the castle and almost broke down crying for his daughter. The only thing that was in his head other than his hatred for the fae was ”what have I done”
Miles away Ragnis shrieked in his bed as he felt the bond to Ray snap, knowing his little she-wolf mate was gone from his life.

Title = My Perfect Sister
The house is creaky and seems to shudder with age. All houses on Lindy road seem to be that way. Once you turn that corner onto our street and you come to the cul-de-sac you see that these houses are different from the newly polished houses that stand seamlessly in the rest of the neighborhood. Lindy road, however, is in an almost dangerous condition. The houses seem to sway in the wind and on those stormy days you can hear them rattle. And with the earthquakes happening all across the country… it was no telling when they would reach here and the buildings would rattle and rattle and all fall down.
Bobby Vurst sat up against his van and looked at the houses. This was logical to him. He had come at the request of the mayor when the rest of the neighborhood had petitioned to get those houses rebuilt. Of course, nothing could be done if the house owners didn’t agree. Warner’s law. When he came here a week ago and looked at those houses in poor condition, he’d stand there, dumbfounded as he got doors slammed in his face. He knew other guys who fixed up the rest of the neighborhood and they had no troubles. But of course, the older people lived here. Not all old people are bad, per se, he had seen plenty of nice older people that offered him tea and cookies while he fixed up their houses. But boy, if all the stereotypes about older people were real- these older ladies would fit it.
They looked out from the top of their nests like mean old crows. He almost expected them to come with binoculars, but that never happened. They’d always give him a snarky comment, sometimes about his race, weight, height- anything really. But he’d just sigh and go back to his van, blaming it on their old mindsets. After coming again and again and knocking on doors for two weeks, this time he goes back to his truck and starts the engine and drives out of Lindy road. In the distance he sees clouds approaching, hoping that they can weather out the storm longer than their own ignorance.
Chapter 1: My Sister, well, Step Sister
One day in school we all had to name our favorite person. It’s probably one of my best and earliest memories. We were all sitting in our seats working. At the front of the class sat the teacher’s desk. The teacher rang a bell and told us our next assignment. The only thing I can remember about her is her bright red hair - she looked like a cherry.
She stood up- and rang her little bell and with an almost sugary voice and said that our next assignment would be to write about our favorite person, why they were our favorite and things like that, and then stand up in front of the class and present it. Well, what immediately came to my mind was my sister, well, step-sister.
She’s practically perfect. I met her when I was eight when my dad married her mom. She was sixteen at the time and awesome. So she’s eight years older than me. She has long flowing blond hair that goes down her back and sparkling blue eyes. She’s thin and short, but aside from that, she’s what you’d imagine a perfect person to be like. She’s a lot different from me with my short dark black hair, black beady eyes, and my stupid chubby body. But, her looks are only a part of what makes her perfect.
She’s a really nice person and she’s super cool! She has her driver’s license already and also takes a lot of dance lessons. She always tries to teach me her moves, but I’m no good at it. I kind of just stumble and fall while the music keeps playing. She’s independent. She does what she wants, even when Mom doesn’t want her to do stuff. Like, I’ve caught her sneaking out some nights. We shared a room so it was hard for her to sneak past me! She’d sneak out the window. I don’t know why. It was dangerous but she didn’t care about the danger. The moonlight was streaming in through the open window and the breeze flowed in. I remember that. I held the blankets up to my chest while she looked at me and slowly put a finger to her lips, then slipped out the window. I just went to sleep after that. We have this sister-telekinesis. It isn’t just a twin thing!
Chapter 2
Mel sits in the attic of the Warner house alone. The draft flies in through the open window, stirring her art pieces that are hung on the wall. She doesn’t really understand why Mom doesn’t have people come fix it. But her mother would just mutter things under her breath before walking away. The floors creak and sometimes even sound like they’re cracking. She swears she can hear animals scratching and climbing in through the walls. Mel doesn’t really like being up here, especially all alone now that Ana is gone. Ana went off to the military. Mom had some protests, but eventually, Ana convinced her and now Mom brags about her daughter in the military. That certainly surprised Mel.
Suddenly, loud knocks started to shake the house. Mel looks up from her drawing, startled. Her heart starts to beat. Even though she’s 16, her mom never lets her open the door. She only lets certain people come over. Mel slowly peers through the broken window, steadying herself on her desk. A man stands in front of the door in a white shirt. Some sort of worker or something. But he has a truck behind him that says in blue fading letters, “Handy Helpers”. She starts to look around on his creepy white van and sees what she wasn’t hoping to see. A small rainbow flag is inside the car taped to one of the mirrors.
Her heart starts to beat. She wishes the window wasn’t broken so she could shut it firmly. Her brows furrow. He either is gay himself or supports it, either way, it wasn’t welcomed here. She backed away from the window, almost afraid that it could spread to her. Words fluttered through her mind about this, words her stepmother had told her. She backed so far up that she knocked into the small table behind her that held all her letters from Ana. And suddenly they all went flying.
Some were making it dangerously close to the window. She dives at them, catching them just in time. She sighs. This is all his fault- the guy out there. If he wasn’t there in the first place with his rainbow flag she wouldn’t have bonked into the table in the first place! She picks up the letters carefully and puts them back in the drawer. She hasn’t gotten word back from Ana in six months. Not even Mom has heard back from her. Ana has to be alright, right?
Her head feels hot and stuffy now. She walks over to the window then looks out it, and watches the guy as he leaves in his truck. She doesn’t understand it. Homosexuality or whatever they call it. She’s not religious but she can’t help but think it’s just so unnatural. She’ll be nice to anyone who is of course, but she’ll never accept them. Why should she? Mom says that they force you to when she talks about it. She doesn’t a lot. But she says that anyone who doesn’t agree with it is labeled a monster or “homophobic”. That just sounds like she’s afraid of them.
Now that the guy is gone, she decides to go downstairs. He might’ve put something on the door. Her curiosity spikes as she wanders down. The stairs squeak and creak. She’d probably die if she fell. Even though it’s a small house, for some reason the attic is REALLY high up. She opens the front door and sees an orange paper. She grabs it, then quickly slams the door again. She expects to find what she can only describe as an “Auto-generated” message that they just give to everyone or something, but instead, she finds a long handwritten note.
“Dear Mrs. and Mr. Warner… Please consider again getting the renovations on your house. I’m afraid that the weather will be picking up in the following weeks and we’re in for one hell of a storm. I just don’t think that in this condition your home will hold up. It’ll be all paid for. We don’t have to build anything new, just add support systems in place in time for that big storm. Please consider.
Sincerely,
Bobby Vurst.”
She looks from the note to the house, and back again… Mom had told her that it was “too expensive” to fix the house. Maybe if she just contacts that Vurst guy he’ll be able to at least fix her window- no, no no, he’s unnatural, he’s evil- he’s gay! She sighs and quickly rips the note up. Are things always this confusing?
Just before dinner, she’s sitting in her attic again, drawing- rainbows, this time. Then, she hears her mother screaming. Alarmed, she looks up. Her mother bursts open the door. Her curly blond hair bobs up and down and her deep blue eyes seem to twinkle and her mouth crinkles into a wide smile.
“My daughter is coming home!”
They spend the next week getting the house ready for Ana to come home again. They move things around and get the attic all nice. Mom mentions putting Ana in a different room but Mel refuses, she wants it to be just like it used to be. Their beds side by side, bookcases and art supplies by the window… and candles burning. It’ll be just like it used to be and things will finally make sense again.
They both wait for Ana by the door. The dinner table is all set with Ana’s favorite foods. The smells waft into the main entrance where they both wait for Ana. And then she comes, and immediately wraps Mel in a big hug.
Chapter 3 Dinner and a Crash
The wind howls through the leaves as the rain lightly taps against the windows. They all sit at the dinner table. Quiet, except for Mom’s chatterings. She doesn’t usually talk this much with Mel, but with Ana, she’s like a crow. She can’t shut up!
“Mom why isn’t the house all fixed up? I’ve heard about the storm-” Ana asks in the middle of Mom’s chatterings.
“The house is fine!” Mother says, setting down her wine glass firmly.
Ana gives mom a “look”.
“Well…” Mom sighs, “You know how I feel about those people coming over to fix up the house…”
For possibly the first time Mel sees Ana glares at Mom. Meanwhile lightning strikes.
“People… Mom they have names, and genders…” She says firmly.
Mom stares down at her plate of food, “Let’s not do this in front of Mel, dear.”
“She’s sixteen, Mom. She can make her own mind up without your horrible influence.”
Another lightning strike. Mel covers her ears as the thunder bangs down on the house. It all shakes, but Ana and Mom don’t notice.
Mom looks flustered, her face red.
“Like maybe how Mel hasn’t responded to my letters- Mom, that was you wasn’t it?”
Thunder, but this time Mel doesn’t hear it.
“What letters?” She says.
Ana looks at her in shock, before looking back to Mom, “So you hid them from her…”
“Don’t do this here!” Mom says.
They ignore the storm, the storm ignores them.
“If you would have seen the letters, Mel, you would have seen that…” Ana sighs, pausing.
Lightning strikes a tree, and a tree crashes down.
“I’m a lesbian, Mel.” She says.
The tree breaks through the attic, and the attic crashes down.
Why she gotta be Mel though
'Cause I like Mel? What other reason should be there?
Should I change it to Ani then or just tag you?
Nooo I meant the story. Star’s story
I like Mel too (myself/my nickname)
Omg lol. I didn’t even think about that! I don’t put very much effort into names XD.
It’s a good name tho, that’s why I used it
I agree totally not biased
Oooh. Makes more sense I don’t really mind. It’s a wonderful name so I’m glad it was there.
As you should
