Like I said, I find it hypocritical when men generalise women for having unrealistic expectations for men when they do exactly the same thing. I swear whenever we call someone out for something disgusting, they get defended by such thirsty & horny men/women and we get hell for it.
Exactly! You can’t claim to be body positive when you go photoshopping your pictures. Therefore people have the right to be offended over the “What’s your excuse?” poster because it does portray a negative connotation.
I don’t like this woman but I don’t think she’s a boomer lol. The youngest boomer is 55 and there’s no way her body bounced back that way after having kids in her 50s!
This is definitely body shaming. And being in underwear in front of your kids?
Just because someone doesn’t have a certain type of body, it doesn’t automatically make them lazy or unattractive. People have different bodies, and this as an expectation is ridiculous. Any body is beautiful.
I don’t see a problem with that, either. It’s only weird if you make it weird. And in that case? If that’s where your mind goes? Then you probably shouldn’t be wearing underwear around your kids. But it doesn’t have to be weird. Especially when they’re so young! I mean, she’s wearing as much clothing as she would on the beach and no one would shame her there.
Plus, mothers can be super important in teaching children to love themselves and their bodies. In many cultures, it’s seen as completely normal to be naked around your kids, too! And I don’t find that weird or shameful.
But it’s kinda icky. New mothers have enough problems without you adding body shaming to that. I mean, not everyone is so lucky to be able to bounce back so quickly, let alone having other priorities
I think people should be shamed. I don’t support the whole body positivism movement, at least not fully. I know there are different body shapes, and metabolism, but at some point people cross the line, where metabolism and genes can be an excuse. I don’t mean exactly this ad, but overall.
And I don’t find it creepy. It’s one picture, and technically it’s not underwear. Boys are very young too.
See I go on the evidence. And the evidence points to body positivity actually causing people to lose more weight than shaming them. If you can love yourself when you’re overweight, you’re much more likely to be positive about improving your health and thinking you deserve it
Studies show this doesn’t work, so no. They shouldn’t be shamed. They should be given the help they need to bounce back in a healthy way. The people who don’t want to, don’t have to. Then it would be their fault.
I read up on this after Bill Maher said stupid stuff. Fact is, body shaming doesn’t help, and it doesn’t work, regardless of how people feel on the matter
Also, I know people who look like her who are much less healthy than the people who have a little excess fat. We should be promoting health, not some “ideal” body
Personally, I don’t find it particularly ideal. I like more curves on the women I find attractive
I couldn’t find a very good meta analysis off hand, but these were the first two I came across on Google. There’s a surprisingly huge amount of research that shows a correlation and heavy causation between discrimination and further weight gain.
Positive reinforcement is just always better, according to science I guess. Not just in terms of body image but most things in life
A lot of it is based on research in America (The most overweight country in the world), but the results can be ascribed globally due to their sample sizes. Discrimination tends to have similar effects throughout most modern cultures
I find this whole “ideal” body very triggering to be honest. I know I’m a gym leopard myself but I only go to the gym because I enjoy it as I’m not only just focusing on my mental & physical health, I’m only doing this for MYSELF.
I find it really annoying that people think that curvy only means “just big boobs & bum” when they have forgotten that hips are also part of that. You can still have a slightly bigger waist and be curvy. Remember, thick thighs saves lives!
