When working on a computer, your stored files will have different types of extensions that support different types of media.
Here are a few:
Images
JPEG - lightweight, accessible, mostly used for social media/web design
PNG - high-quality, supports transparency
GIF - supports both transparency and small animation, distorts colors sometimes
Documents/Text
PDF - mainly used for online documents and printing, formatting is maintained
TXT - simple text file (no format, font, or images)
DOCX - Microsoft word document
Videos
MP4 - widely supported across smaller devices, more support across hardware
MOV - originally developed by Apple, compatible across linux and windows systems
Audio
MP3 - small size files through compression
Miscellaneous
BIN - a binary file that is usually supporting a larger program file
EXE - (hi I included this for @idiot.exe) runnable program file, may contain a virus
If you’re a programmer, you might also encounter .java, .cpp, .py, .sln, and many other files.
