Warlocks, Witches and Wizards

So, guys. We see a mix of all three of these magical people in various different stories, but what is the actual difference? They have basically the same powers, go to the same magic schools (e.g. Harry Potter) and also have the same sort of role in a story.

In most case, a witch is female and Wizard male. So what is a warlock? They seem to be whatever, as far as I have seen.

Then there are also all the different versions of each character. You’ve got fairy tale witches that are usually evil baddies who live in huts in the middle of the woods (e.g. Hanzel and gretel (will never forgive people for calling the movie gretel and Hanzel btw)), Modern witches that go to school and have broomsticks etc (the good witch, Harry Potter…) and then there is a more voodoo type thing which is a lot more down to earth IMO. (e.g. Vampire Diaries).

I can’t say much about warlocks as I haven’t seen much of them tbh, but about wizards…

They tend to be the good guys in old fairytales. Evil witch, powerful wizard… (of Oz :smirk::joy:). Modern type fantasy they are more like witches, to the point where there is almost no difference, but, yet again, I can’t comment much on them because I haven’t seen many around lately.

What are your opinions? Both on what I’ve said and on the three character roles?

Don’t wizards use wands and witches use broomsticks? And aren’t witches females and wizards males?

That’s where it gets hazy for me. The m male/female thing makes sense but there are so many authors who have written them in different ways…

yeah this is the thing, everyone thinks these terms differently. Witches, yes they use brooms, wizards use staff, or wand, warlocks uses staff.

I remember witches using broomsticks and wizards using wands. I’ve never heard of warlocks before. Sounds interesting.:white_heart:
