So you’ve probably seen that we have included a forums section. I understand that this might be a little confusing for some people, so I thought I would run through my decision.
There are a few main reasons why we chose to have a pronouns section in the bio:
- To help people who are transgender and/or transitioning to be referred to by their gender identity.
- To help non-binary people who have preferred pronouns.
- To help the community refer to everyone in chat, despite androgynous profile pictures and usernames.
Very few people like to be referred to as the wrong gender. It doesn’t matter if you’re trans, cis, or nonbinary! It’s not a nice feeling. We’re trying to prevent that here at ShanniiWrites.
But as well as that, I’m sure we can all say we’ve been in a situation where someone’s profile picture and username has made us very confused and we’re not sure how to refer to them. If you can just click on someone’s icon and check, it makes all of our lives a lot easier!
Of course, you don’t need to fill out the pronouns section. It’s not mandatory! It’s completely up to you, but it would help a lot of people out there!
We’re always looking for ways to make the ShanniiWrites forums more comfortable and helpful to all of our users, so if you have any suggestions, please feel free to check out the site feedback category.
Happy writing!
