Yeah no I’ve always thought that it was pretty overhyped, it’s a nice portrait sure but it’s not as impressive as other pieces, even from the same time

It’s overhyped for sure, somehow it managed to become the one painting you really have to see in the Louvre, without there being a good reason for that honestly…

not to be all hipster but tbh Da Vinci has better paintings imo (and if you ask me, his true genius is in his notebooks)
but well, i think part of the hype of the Mona Lisa is the whole “mythical” feel it’s gotten over the years? the whole enigma thing and all, so it’s much more of a cultural value than artistic (not that it doesn’t have an artistic value, it totally does, but again? i feel like Da Vinci has better painting)
that said wtf?? back when i went to the Louvre things were so strict and orderly to see it
(but also i’m still salty abt the time i went bc my fave Da Vinci paintings were exclusive for an exposition that was sold out before i knew i was going to Paris)
