What FFXIV Job Would Your Characters Have?

I thought about this earlier today when I was doing some character development exercises for The Queen of Freaks (Which I will eventually continue, I promise. It’s just that the whole losing 260,000 reads worth of chapters still hurts).

I was wondering what job each of my characters would have if they were in Eorzea! I think this is an awesome exercise!

Maybe it would be better with D&D jobs? I don’t know enough about D&D yet to decide. Let me know if you think it would work better!

Anabelle Reign: Definitely a dancer! I could see her as nothing else, to be honest! It suits her sexy, confident, show-offy personality so much!

Okay so I’m gonna be a real nerd about this one :eyes:

I’ll just use the initial 8 character Red Mask that will be assembled by the end of Kito book one for this, a few of them are obvious but some may be interesting to look into!

I think I’ll base it intially off of their combat placement. So the role they play in battle. Then weaponry will come in, fighting style and magic disciplines :eyes:

Well, I’ll get started.

Kito

Kito Tiko

So this is an easy one. Kito is a DPS through and through. He is an analytical fighter for sure, he’s always aware of his positioning and how to deal the highest amount of damage possible. He likes to get in close to his opponent, weave around attacks and land heavy blows. So he’s a melee DPS as well. As he uses a katana (in the first book) I’d probably say he’s a samurai!

Katy

Katy Ni Tiko

Katy is a little more difficult on the surface as she’s an all-round fighter in a lot of ways. She can fight at close, long or mid-range using lightning magic, she can summon shields using her sentinel discipline and she has a talent for overpowering opponents relatively easily.

So I think I’d need to go off of that fighting style and weapon choice. Katy uses a sword and shield and overwhelms opponents with large, flashy abilities - drawing their attention to her in a group situation. So, of course, Katy would be the quintessential tank class, Paladin!

Seiko

Seiko Mukai

Seiko is also fairly straightforward. He’s a build-up sustained DPS through-and-through. He uses elemental magic to back up pretty slick martial arts, using mirage magic to dodge, weave, speed up movement, create clones and much more. His deadliest ability is charging limbs with dark magic to create massive internal damage with even glancing blows. But essentially, he’s a martial artist who gets in close and blasts opponents with huge strings of attacks. So he’s obviously a Monk!

Talya

Talya Tiko

Another fairly straightforward one! Talya is a tank for sure. She only uses one magical discipline: sentinel. The discipline centred around creating energy shields. She draws an opponent’s attention and defends her teammates, usually ending battles in a single swing of her huge greatsword. I think it’s fair to say Talya is a Dark Knight!

Alice

Alice McAlpyne

So, Alice would seem to be the most difficult character to initially classify I’d say. Her primary weapon is a bow. So archer? She also uses a shortsword, so gladiator? Her primary role is a healer, white mage? She’s also known for her incredible intelligence, so maybe scholar? Well, no, it’s actually a bit more simple than that. She’s not only a healer, she’s a support fighter who fights tactically and buffs her teammates very effectively to make sure they don’t need healing. Using her witchcraft discipline, she can buff teammates and fight opponents in some very interesting and effective ways. So Alice would actually be the job variant of archer: Bard!

Sierra

Sierra Darkrayne

So Sierra is actually deceptively simple. She can fight at close or long distance using her magically enhanced flintlock pistol and her cutlass. She likes to fight using a very aggressive style, keeping an opponent’s attention on her so she can overwhelm them with aggression. As such, she acts a lot like a tank - more accurately a gunbreaker! May be a spoiler for her getting a gunblade later in the story but w/e

Arthur

Arcuturus “Arthur” Artorius

Arthur is another one that seems fairly difficult at first. It would become more difficult as the story goes on as Arthur’s combat style does shift throughout the books. But in book 1 it is a little easier. Arthur uses a deft, diligent swordplay style. He prioritises speed and dexterity and using his malleable paragon magical Discipline he can fight effectively from mid to close range very effectively, able to switch between them on the fly as well. So I think it becomes fairly clear that Arthur is a Red Mage!

Frost

Frost

Not to end on an anticlimax, but Frost is by far the easiest of any Kito character to place into an FF14 job :joy:

So Frost is the character who can produce the most destructive force of any character in the Red Mask (Kito’s team). She uses enormous amounts of ice to completely overpower opponents from range and can even fight effectively up close to an extent. This makes Frost fit quite effectively into the Black Mage job

One of the villains in my story is a sociopath who disguises herself as a friend, then destroys other peoples’ lives. She’d definitely be a Healer of some sort. I mean, my friend uses Rescue to randomly throw her teammates under AoEs

As for D&D classes: I’m a bit of a cheat since I ‘build’ my fantasy characters with various tRPG attributes in mind. The story I’m currently not working on has a folk hero Paladin and an entertainer Monk… Neither of whom fits their profession very well. I also have a mage who doesn’t neatly fit into any given RPG role - he specialises in protection and dispel magic, with some healing and elemental magic to boot.

I’m still salty Dancer is not a tank. I know, I’m literally the only person who is

This is actually a great exercise for people who play FFXIV, maybe some of the @Writers could try it?

I think Theo would have to be Sage (depending on how it seems when we play it)! He’s got a very soothing personality, but he’s also feisty and not afraid to fight either :stuck_out_tongue:

God I can’t wait to answer these when I plan my characters more :joy: but I can say so far I’d have a bard and a gunbreaker (so that’s a ranged DPS and a Tank) oh! Possibly a dragoon too (I think that’s DPS) :sunglasses: but I need to plan those characters more.

Fun fact: The character I made in FF14 is actually named after a character from my story I’m working on aside from the surname, maybe we should make a thread about the naming conventions for the different races in FF14 :sunglasses:

I’m gonna be a nerd and tell you all what the FF14 “jobs” are so that you can apply them to your characters :sunglasses: a job is basically part of the role you play as, you can change between them in game all the time, it’s not like WoW where you pick one and that’s it

Role: Tank

Tanks are the defense role! They keep enemies focused on them while everyone else does their thing :sunglasses:

  • Warrior: Fights with axe
  • Paladin: Sword and Shield
  • Dark Knight: Great Sword/Claymore (basically -just a giant sword)
  • Gunbreaker: Fights with gunblade, my favourite tank job

Role: Healer

Healers heal everyone

  • White Mage: Uses a cane
  • Astrologian: Uses an astrolabe (fancy looking thing I don’t know how to describe)
  • Scholar: Book, you can use a fairy too but the fairy isn’t a weapon, I don’t know how the fairy works I’m not a healer main
  • Sage: Uses some weird floaty lasers called nouliths

Role: Melee DPS

DPS means damage per second, melee DPS are the ones who are up close to bosses and enemies to do their damage, the limit break is typically reserved for them too

  • Ninja: Fights with daggers
  • Samurai: Fights with katana
  • Monk: The weapon is like, things you put on your hands, but it’s martial arts
  • Reaper: Fights with a scythe
  • Dragoon: Fights with lances/spears

Role: Ranged DPS

This is the one that feels most good for me, probably because I’m a dancer main and used to be a bard main. But yeah it’s damage from a more ranged position, you don’t necesarily need to be up close.

  • Machinist: Gun
  • Bard: Bow
  • Dancer: Chakrams

Role: Magic DPS

  • Black Mage: Staff
  • Summoner: Grimoire
  • Red Mage: Rapier
  • Blue Mage: Rod (this is a special job, it levels differently to everyone else).

Role: Crafters/Gatherers

I’m not wholely sure on the arms for these but they aren’t combat jobs so it doesn’t matter :sunglasses: If I don’t name them all it’s because I genuinely don’t pay much attention.

  • Goldsmith
  • Carpenter
  • Culinarian
  • Alchemist
  • Armourer
  • Weaver
  • Botanist
  • Miner
  • Fisher

Then just to be self indulgent I’ll share some pictures of my character in some of these jobs. I haven’t done all of them yet.

Dancer

Ninja

Bard

Gunbreaker

Okay then @Writers if you need any more information about these then let me know. It can be fun to think of our characters and be like hmm I wonder what they would be. You could even think “if my character were to play this game, what would they pick as their prefered thing”

I completely forgot this existed and I’m living for my own 2-year-old idea. Is that sad?

That’s hilarious :joy: it’s a good idea

Great idea! I could vapourise elitists from within :smiling_imp:
or be normal and find a blue mage static but only when I get a better computer

Since our theme of the week is dancing I’ll say that I’d love to have a character that is a dancer. Mostly because I think Chakrams are pretty underrated weapons. But also because the idea of dancing through a battle, doing damage and buffing your team is really rad and can definitley make for a fun character!
