Are they nicer than the episode community? Maybe more mature? Also how do they treat beginners writers?
I’ll say they are more nicer but I haven’t been active on there a lot. Just for a bit and they were more kind to me.
Definitely more mature, in my opinion! But as much as I politically agree with most Wattpad users, I have to admit that it’s a bit of a left-wing echo chamber
Like the fact that it’s just a given that using food to describe skin colour is a no-no. I don’t agree at all, but people accept that guideline as law
Yikes. I remember you telling me that.
why can’t you use food to describe skin color?
Yeah it bothered me. If I wanna say I’m a caramel colour, there’s nothing wrong with that. It invokes a much better image than “light brown”, which can mean 400 tones. They say it’s objectification and sexualisation, but I beg to differ. There’s a difference to me between “her skin was a chocolate brown” and “I wanna taste me some of that chocolate”
Some stuff about it being objectification and similar to colonising a woman’s body, since usually foods we originally gained from the colonies and slavery are used. I think that’s ridiculous since we don’t associate chocolate with the subjugation of black people
From what I remember , beginner writers are very supportive of each other on Wattpad. I remember having had a lot of my fellow author friends send me a lot of love .Whenever a new chapter of my book came out.
Oof. I’ve been on Wattpad for a long time so I have a lot to say I’ll just post what it’s like based on my experience - I’ll try to be as unbiased as I can to make it fair:
-
Friends - To be honest, it’s quite hard. Users tend to make friend groups based on thread types. Basically, if you’re a fantasy writer then it’s best to find the fantasy threads if you want to make friends. Being a Wattpad newbie is hard because it does, in my opinion, feel like being the new kid trying to find which lunch table to go to. Wattpad cliques seem easy to point out in my eyes.
-
Threads - Very repetitive and can die quickly. There are LOADS of “chatroom” threads we’re you can just talk about anything. These are nice but more useful for small conversations but not long-term friends. Again, if you want to find a “group”, find your genre! Also, threads are rarely closed and users don’t get flagged often.
-
Newbies - Wattpad is really nice to the newbies. I’d recommend that it’s better to stick with them then try to join an existing group.
-
Politics - Whew… chile… Ok so Wattpad is mostly left-wing but there’s been an increase in conservatives lately. I’d only recommend joining political threads if you can take whatever is thrown at you because Wattpad debates can get nasty verrryyy quickly. I’m just gonna call a spade a spade and say some Wattpad users are bigoted. I’ve seen some threads trying to justify homophobia and a thread trying to justify using the N-word in stories but that’s tea for another day. These users are a minority though so never let them put you off debates.
-
Mods - The mods are quite nice and understanding. There’s 2 I honestly dislike but again, tea for another day.
-
Criticism - Wattpad is weirdly the EXACT opposite in terms of embracing criticism compared to Episode. The community loves getting critiques and there are loads of critique threads but this, unfortunately, leaves out poets. It’s hard to find poetry critiques. Some of these critique threads, unfortunately, don’t accept stories in the LGBT tag. I’d say be careful around the critique threads because some are more about showing how “brutal” they can critique and others are just so the OP can get reads for their own story. Some authors take “brutal” critiquing WAY too seriously and are rude to beginner and/or younger users. Again, a minority that should never put you off your work.
Overall, the Wattpad community is definitely more mature than the Episode community however this in a few cases the only differences are the users’ ages. Don’t get put off by the bad apples and stick to the users you can trust.
I’m very new to Wattpad lol. Is there a forums for Wattpad?
Yes , there is ! Haven’t been on there myself since I’m not active on Wattpad anymore , so I’m not sure how it’s like there.
there is a lot some creppy charatere x reader sex stories. they are called Lemons.
and I admit I read a lot about creppy pasta. because when you read a scary horror story and then read a crappy love story then you just cant be scared of them anymore.
Fun thing I discovered from the Tumblr writing community . The main reason for why they use the word Lemon to refer to smut/erotic fiction there. Is to avoid getting detected by the algorithm that filters out NSFW content for the non 18 + users. So maybe the word just got transferred from Tumblr back then to Wattpad, who knows?
Same with Fanfiction.net! I remember being like “tf is a lemon?” When I was 13
Gosh that was 9 years ago!
Added wattpad tag
I barely interact with people on Wattpad tbh
Are they nice people?
I think I’m gonna make a new wattpad account. I hate my username and it isn’t changing
