Who are Your Favourite Authors?

This can be as intensely detailed as you like or as simple as you want! I just want to know who everyone loves. There are so many authors to choose from, so let loose! Any genre, any style, any age!

Specifically, though, I want to know if and how they inspired you as a writer, or a reader!

Personally, my favourite authors are:

  • Derek Landy (Skullduggery Pleasant)
  • Kelley Armstrong (Women of the Otherworld)
  • J.R.R Tolkien (The Lord of the Rings)
  • J.K Rowling (Harry Potter)
  • Neil Gaiman (the Graveyard Book/American Gods)
  • H.P Lovecraft (the Call of Cthulhu)
  • Darren Shan (The Demonata)

There are tons more but these are the authors I’ve consistently liked since I was very young. I can’t wait to hear everyone else’s favourites!

Lol I read a lot but I’ll keep this short, these are some amazing authors who I gotta read books from this year.

Kiera Cass - The Selection Series
Ally Carter - The Embassy Row series, The Gallagher Girls Series’ (I really like her books, they’re action books but with some romance)
Melody Carlson - Carter House Girls; The Runaway
Nicola Yoon - Everything, Everything and the sun is also a star
Jennifer Lynn Barnes - The Naturals Series

Oooh awesome! I do like action with romance sprinkled in there so that might be a good look for me!

I sat J.K. Rowling with a slight hint of disdain because she betrayed my trust by ruining McGonagall’s age!

But I share most of the same ones as the OP.

I haven’t read a lot of Neil Gaiman, but I think that his work is amazing and I love the stuff he’s done that got adapted :stuck_out_tongue: He’s on my list of authors to read!

Apart from that, I’d have to say

  • Stephen Fry (I love his books on poetry and mythology)
  • Ursula LeGuin
  • Margaret Atwood
  • Edgar Allen Poe
  • George R.R. Martin (I love his stories even though I don’t think his writing style is that good)
  • C.S. Lewis
  • Robert Louis Stevenson
  • Charles Dickens
