The only time I’ve seen the villain winning as a good thing work properly is when it’s like some divine prophecy
@MeghanWrites watch invasion of the body snatchers, I think you will enjoy it
Now for my writing anxiety just to stay on topic I sometimes worry that people won’t understand my extended metaphors.
Yeah, and usually there’s a caveat in those that lets the good side eventually win out. It makes your bias pretty obvious if you try and actually think about writing a story where you frame the side you disagree with positively and have them decisively win in the end. It makes you uncomfortable just thinking about it.
Like, just thinking about writing a story where I portray the rise of a fascist state as positive, good and morally right makes me squirm
Okay
Like Forest of a Thousand Lanterns, but the main character was based off of the evil queen and had factors enabling her…
I have all the books in the series. So good.
George Orwell right?
“The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.”
Fun fact. If u look at it this way. The empire is government, so when the ship got blown up the Jedi’s were technically terrorists.
As the saying goes, one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter.
Just to clarify, I do not support terrorism.
One of my favourite sayings
Bump.
- Does anyone else have any questions when it comes to writing diversity?
- Are there any characters you tend to avoid writing in case you misrepresent them?
Yes! Please feel free to share! I like to think I have a lot of experience helping people with this!
- is it disrespectful to have two people of different religions marry each other?
- How do you tie a head scarf?
I don’t know about the second one (the head covering I wear to church is just a little infinity mantilla. It just sits on my head) but the first one? Usually it’s fine. Make sure you check the religion, though, as some religions have rules about who can and cannot marry outside the faith
Bump!
(I’m not going to do this btw- just curious)
If you’re a white author, is it okay to show slurs being used to show what some minorities face? When should they be used/not used?
Depends on where you’re writing your story because some don’t allow you to write it in their guidelines.
Just like, for a book or something. Ig. Somewhere where it wouldn’t be against guidelines lol.
Then it should be fine as long as it’s for educational reasons and awareness.
BUMP
I’m bad at researching stuff so when I want to write a diverse character I get a little scared…
Do you guys think anyone would get offended over this scene?
The MC of my story is at a wedding reception and the other bridesmaids and groomsmen ask her what she thinks about the playlist. So she starts suggesting what she wishes she was on there.
So, many of them start making negative comments, not only about what she said but also about other things. One of the bridesmaids tells the MC that her taste in music is horrible, her favorite singer is a “culture vulture” and that some of the songs she likes are “junk food for the soul”. Now, this bridesmaid that makes that particular comment is black, but the other bridesmaids and groomsmen also make negative comments, and they’re all from different ethnicities. Do you think I should change it?
I dunno, what are you trying to say with the scene?
