Announcing the Queer Writer’s Contest

Yeah, I get that. I’m not good with romances because I always second guess what I go with when implementing dialogue.

I personally don’t see an issue with straight people entering, I just hope if any do they do the proper research so that the characters they’re trying to write get represented properly. :v:

Yep. I was considering making my story have romance in it, but I feel like it cheapens the plot. Both my MCs are flying solo for now :v:

Lol, I’m only using romance as a part of the MC’s plan.

TL you snapped on the thread :joy: But yayyy! I’d love to see more Ace-centered stories personally and I think a few creators are doing that. My only thing is that people are under the impression straight people shouldn’t participate which is really gate keeping and prejudiced :woman_shrugging: Anyone should be able to write a story as long as they’re educated on it. It would be a great way for heterosexuals to learn more about the community and do research. The idea that straight people shouldn’t participate though is killing the mood of the entire thread, it’s the same as saying you shouldn’t enter the magicka contest unless you’re Wiccan or Pagan. But that’s my opinion.

I feel so bad now :confounded:

That’s what I’m saying! Writing people with mental disorders was so eye opening for me so I’m wondering why it can’t be the same in the context of LGBT people

You stole my example, Imma have to sue you now

As an ace person myself, I definitely agree! The story I’m writing doesn’t have an ace-focus, but one of the major side characters is ace, and I’m debating if I also want to establish her as aromantic as well. I saw a comment, talking about how they’re hoping that there won’t be stories talking about ace people being ‘solved’, and I feel that is also a solid point!

Oh no, I’m sorry if I offended you!

You’re good! I’m not offended. It’s a small fear just makes me cringe sometimes.

Oops, sorry again- I didn’t think about anybody possibly fearing clowns, a small or big fear, I should probably take that into consideration next time.

Maybe you should blur the image.

It’s okay! It happens don’t worry too much about it. He is a tolerable clown then most.

Is that my (nonexistent) best friend Kim Kibum???

Yup, and as a bisexual, I totally agree with that too. One of my main characters will be a lesbian, and the MC herself is bisexual. The MC’s best friend is also transgender. It’s not only your environment that influences writing about stuff like this- there’s experience and knowledge that has to be gained.

I really wanna see more stories with bisexual people in it… without the double/multiple LI option. And I really do hope people come up with creative ideas for this contest as well. Not all stories have to have romance as a focus.

I’m trans and pansexual so I’m definitely fairly queer. :flushed: I will admit I, really like the word ‘queer’ and I’m all for reclaiming it. Same with me calling myself a tranny. Considering I have so much free time from this quarantine stuff, I’m tempted to enter.

Something irks me about a bunch of (presumably) cishet folks using the word ‘queer’ for this contest, though. It feels like they’re teaching the cishet members of Episode’s writing community that it’s okay to use that term even if you aren’t queer. Which I don’t agree with. (Unless, ya know, you’re using the word ‘queer’ like ‘strange’ but that should be obvious.)

I don’t like the word queer that much (in this context, I was questioning/“bi-curious”), so I’ve decided to see it as “odd”, or “strange”. Even mystical, you could say.
