Announcing the Queer Writer’s Contest

Actually, I have a few hopes for this contest-

  • Non-binary folks portrayed CORRECTLY and, maybe I’m going too far, but, being portrayed REALISTICALLY. What a concept! I’d love to see some nonbinary folks who aren’t just. Androgynous.
  • Stories focusing on an actual story and not LGBTQ+ issues.
  • Trans men and women being portrayed in. A realistic manner. With no fetishizing. If I see ONE story with a big buff cis man and his soft trans boyfriend being written by a cis author, I’m going on a tirade. Or if I see a trans woman being portrayed in a predatory manner! I will fight!!!
  • Ace characters!!!
  • Not a lot of stereotypes… You know, like gay relationships with a clearly more dominant one. It happens, yo, but c’mon, not every gay relationship has a ‘man’ and a ‘woman’ role.

I mean, I’m probably asking a bit much, though.

I just think it was an odd choice to go with but I get what you mean. Technically, the word means to be happy. They should of just used the acronym for the title.

Hold up, I had no idea that clown image was of Key wh-

LMAOOO. Key (Kibum) is the clown (either him or Minho, but I remember it was Key) and Jonghyun is… Colonel Sanders?

I’m not a shawol, (Sorry to disappoint, but I definitely like their songs, Lucifer was one of the first kpop songs I ever heard!), I dug a little deeper and Key was Ronald McDonald, Onew was Colonel Sanders, Jonghyun was Inuyasha (From “Inuyasha: a feudal fairytale, I don’t know what it is though, it sounds like an anime, movie, or show?), Taemin was Howl from Howl’s Moving Castle, and lastly, Minho was Captain Jack Sparrow!

(These were their 2015 Halloween costumes)

Oh, that’s ok. Inuyasha was a manga, then an anime in the late 90s-early 2000s. Taemin looked cute though.

2015? I can’t believe it’s been that long.

I’m defo not participating, and probably not reading either. I don’t find lgbtq romance stories interesting for me personally.

Aw damn I got excited for a min there xD I can’t participate

I’m not sure about this one. On one hand, I love the theme. On the other, I don’t like the title they’ve chosen.

For those of you who don’t know, ‘queer’ was used as a slur against members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Honestly, if I see any stories on that shelf that are ‘LGBTQ’ because they have a gay LI option, I’ll be pissed.

You don’t have to write romance stories, you can do fantasy, mystery, drama, etc. Some episode authors may not know that though lol

To me, it’s kinda insensitive? I mean, you claim that there will be more diversity, then go and do something like this? Yikes

But I guess it’s all about people’s perspective

Yeah, the title really though me for a loop. Hope they change it to SAGA or LGBTQ+

I agree. I’m willing to bet that they don’t actually know where the term stems from and didn’t bother to educate themselves.

I’m certain that they don’t know the history behind it

And the title of the announcement itself is a big screw-up. “Queer Writer’s Contest”. :grimacing:

True. At first glance, it sounds like it’s a contest for queer writers, not a pride contest.

I think that’s where the whole debate stemmed from. Haven’t read it yet, but I heard that people were gatekeeping

Yeah, some people were, saying that cishet authors should sit this one out and not participate.

That’s not nice. They can do research and ask LGBTQ+ for info

Yeah. There’s now threads on both the Episode forums and ours for people to find sensitivity readers to make sure they’re accurately portraying different gender identities and sexual orientations
