Are there any books you love to hate?

I for one do have a list of books I love to hate not simply because they were written horribly but because they couldn’t hold my interest to keep reading them. These books are popular with other reads but not me. I’m not complaining about how they were written. I think the biggest one I have issues with is The Hunger Games. I know I’m going to get complaints about this one. I only read the first book which I basically finished reading it in four hours after renting it from the school library. That is the first book I have read fully and I never had the interest to even pick up the rest of the books in the series. It had nothing to even do with the storyline.

Another book series I love to hate on is Twilight. I read up to book three in the series but I couldn’t continue reading it. I actually prefer movies that are based on books for this series. I love the series but dang, there are some messed up plots in that series. I was team Edward when I was into the series.

Fifty Shades of Grey, let’s just say this much. It was boring. I couldn’t get past the first three chapters which were going nowhere. I really tried to make myself read this book but I never succeeded in the end. I finally had to drop the book and move on to a new series. There is a to of love to hate about this book series. Those who have read it would know what I mean. It had nothing to do with the plot of the book but truthfully this time around with how it was written. I like books to be engaging from start to finish.

Shall We date series, it’s an Otome app-based game novel series. I love the artwork but I can not get passed the time restraints the games had. Like for instance, to read new chapters you have to play little mini-games to progress on into the story. It became tedious to when there is certain amount you have to get which could take up to 8 hours of work. Not worth the storyline to me. Even though I do love otome games but this series made it hard for me to continue. I read Voltage Inc more now anyways they have different stories that written pretty well.

My last entry is the Immortal Series, I liked the first book it was great to read but then I started the second book. Not sure if it just struck a nerve but there was this one scene in the book that turned me off the whole series. I can remember it clearly. That was the first time I had no initiative to actually finish the book even though I loved the first one. I was in high school during either sophomore or junior year. I was actually pretty upset about the fact that I didn’t want to read it anymore and sadly didn’t bring another book to read at the time. So that was a fun study hall class.

These are the only ones I can come up with as of right now. What books do you love to hate? Also, why do you hate it them? What turned you off from reading them? Is it just one book in the series or all the books in the series?

Any ‘Diary’ series- DOAWK, Dork Diaries, DDD. I loved them as a kid but I have since realized how completely and utterly stupid they are :joy:

And maybe don’t use the announcement tag, since there’s the discussion tag now?

IT

it was so long that I lost interest in it so quickly… the diary entries are what made me not like it at all.
I like the movie a lotttt better (and thats coming from a person that hates movies)

I just use it to bring the audience here. I don’t use it after this first posting anyway.

I understand how you feel about the Harry Potter series. I couldn’t make myself read the last book in the series.

I’ve actually never heard of those. I have books from my past that I use to read but now look back at them in a different light.

They basically all have the same, copy-paste kind of plot. Kid is a loser, has two other loser friends, writes in a diary even though they ‘don’t want to’, have a copy-paste love interest, eventually end up being really successful and getting loads of money some point and then it’s never mentioned again in the books

Interesting, yeah I can see where that would be let down at an older age. I’m dealing with the same thing but it’s with the books that we are reading to my nephew who is almost 3 years old. The books are our old childhood books but now I see them as an adult.

I actually love the Dork Diaries, but I’m not a big fan of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Maybe it’s because the drawings in Wimpy Kid are AWFUL!!!

A series that I really don’t like is Sweet Valley High / SVU. It’s so stereotypical and superficial.

Which books?

Everyone is different about books. I can agree with you on both points. Diary of a wimpy kid was just awful. They even had us read back in school a long time ago. If I remember correctly.

I don’t remember the titles, but some of the books were a bit homophobic :eyes::sparkles::green_heart::no_mouth:

Ah okay, that’s normal with the old books they make students learn. It might be upsetting to read but there are life lessons to learn in school books. I’m not condoning the homophobic parts though. There is always parts in books that no one is going to like.
