Gurgen got up from the chair and walked over to the window. The window view wasn’t anything glamorous, it had the view of the street followed by a office build across from them. But he watched as the cars and people below go about their days. He had recalled the first time his brother had to stay in the hospital. At the time, he didn’t understand what had happened, and no one would tell him. It was only much later did he learned the reason. The shocking truth of that fateful night.
It was Christmas, snow had gathered outside a couple of inches. His father had been a doting father since his mother had been home. His mother had been fairly busy running around the house, making food for dinner. He watched at the dining table as his father took Davit up stairs, saying something about showing him his collection?
Their mother told Gurgen to go to the basement to grab her the old bowl from storage. So he go up and headed down the basement stairs. The basement was never really finished when they moved into the house, the ceiling never really had a solid wall to cover the floor boards of the floor up above. So cobwebs had built up over the years.
The house felt peaceful and part of him wished this would be the new normal for him and his brother. But fate was far too twisted for that. As Gurgen was looking around each of the boxes that had piled up over the years, he felt a sense of dread. This had him frozen in place. He couldn’t figure out why he was feeling such a feeling. Just as he was about to ignore it and move on, a loud BANG was heard throughout the house. He heard loud footsteps moving above him, sounded like his mother was running up the stairs. Shortly after her screams echoed throughout the house. He hadn’t moved from the basement. He had wanted to figure out what happened but he felt a throbbing pain in his chest that had prevented him him doing so.
The house was quiet for what felt like hours. But in reality it didn’t take long for the sirens to come and gone. He couldn’t recall all the details after. But he knew his father was arrested and shortly after was released because he knew the majority of the police department.
Only years later did he learn that his father had relapsed and shot his brother that fateful night. For reasons he doesn’t even know. It had taken a couple of dads before his mother had acted as if nothing had happened, and the neighbors whispered about the event for a long while.
The sound of his phone had brought him back to his senses. Looking around, he realized he was at the hospital. A sigh escaped his lips and he stretched his arms above his head and arch his back. He heard a few “pops” coming from his spine as he partially stretched. He grabbed his phone and looked at the text from Tommy.
“I’m already on it. I luckily didn’t see any news crews there, but I am on it for sure. Don’t worry.”
He felt relieved but Tommy’s text. Glancing over at his unconscious brothers face. He felt disgusted. He strode back over to the empty seat beside his brothers bed and sat down on it. He was disgusting at his brother.
He chuckled dryly, “I’ve hated you for a long time…” Glancing at the door, as if he was half expecting someone to walk in. When no one did, he continued. “You always had moms attention when she was here. You had the girl. The perfect part of our life!” he couldn’t help his emotions coming through as he spoke. “Everyone loved you! And it wasn’t fair! We were the exact same person, yet everyone wanted to befriend you over myself! What did we do differently?” he paused before continuing. “Do you recall the time mom took us all to the acting class? I watched as you and Isabella took to the stage. You both looked so natural, it looked real….” he trailed off. Recalling the memory as if it had happened yesterday.
It was a sunny day like any other. Gurgen and Davit had been brought along with their neighbor to an appointment. An acting appointment. They were both excited for this very moment. Entering the building, they saw bright lights pointed at the stage and the judges sitting in front of the stage. There were others before them, so they waited patiently as they could. Davit was practicing with Isabella quietly behind Gurgen as he watched the stage. His eyes glowed with ambition. When it was his turn, he started off on a strong note, but he ended up tripping and messing up his scene. He got off the stage feeling bad about his performance. He watched Isabella do hers. She was amazing. Every move, every word held meaning as if she had been that person since birth. She got off the stage, and was followed by Davit. Davit stood in the spotlight nervously. The directors had to prompt him a few times before he finally took a deep breath and acted out the scene. Gurgen was shocked. His brother could actually act better than him. He watched his brother move about in a way that was so unlike his normal movements. He spoke with more energy, and excitement. It was clear to him that his brother, Davit, would have this role.
A few days later they had received the call, claiming Davit had the role. But Davit looked at his mom and INSISTED that it was Gurgen that had acted that role and not him. Giving up his acting career before it could even start. And thus started Gurgens acting career.
“I never understood why you had done that. And I-” he paused for a brief moment before he continued. “I will never forgive you. For forfeiting your role because you knew how much I wanted that role. For being better than me. And for leaving when I needed you the most!” his hands were ball up on his lap. He hadn’t realized how much he had resented his brother, the amount of hatred he held for him. “I will make you pay. I’ll-” his train of thought was interrupted by a deep. This didn’t sound like his phone. He picked up Davit’s flip phone and saw a text notification from Isabella. He couldn’t help himself from flipping open the phone and reading it.
“Hey Davit… Look I’m sorry for freaking out earlier. It just… Well after you kissed me, and that text came through from your neighbor making it seem like y’all were dating… Well… I got scared and hurt. I’m sorry for overreacting in the heat of the moment. I do hope you can forgive me. If you forgive me or think you can… Please come down to Club Ivy and meet me. I would love to see you and finish were we left off at on my couch.

He looked over at his brother with a mischief smile forming on his face. “oh Davit. What have you been up to with Isabella?” he chuckled as he deleted the text from Davit’s phone before placing the phone beside Davit. He stood up and headed towards the door. Before leaving he looked back and replied sinisterly “rest up, you’ll need every ounce of energy for the fun I’m about to leave you with.”

It had taken a bit of time to get to the club from the hospital but he didn’t worry. He had to make a stop before appearing before Isabella, but it was worth it. He walked into the building, feeling each beat of the music vibrate throughout him. It didn’t take long until he saw Isabella. He didn’t walk to her immediately, he took a moment to gather himself together. He needed to be like Davit… With this in mind, he lowered his head a little as if a lost puppy. And causally walked over to her booth. He couldn’t help but smile warmly when he arrived. “Hey Isa! I didn’t keep you waiting too long, did I?” . He than noticed that she wasn’t alone. But this was a club so it’s normal to ignore certain company. Besides, he was admiring Isabella’s natural beauty, and the dress.
